find me a 2001+ for similar mileage within 150 miles of 10918 and i'll go for it.
Well it sounds like your set on that car for that price. If you need help finding any type of car in the largest metropolitan belt in the America then there's not much hope for ya. You wanted to know if its a good deal, I and some others think not, but if its all you can find and you don't want to wait, then buy it. Hell Ive seen 100k Z06's go for 18k. Barely over what your about to spend.
to me, not worth it. you can get an 01+ for similar money. i freely admit that i discount the 97-00 cars more than most. i just look at 16k and think i've seen many 01's with that mileage in great condition sell for 16-17k
if you don't mind the quirks of the pre 2001 cars it's not a bad buy though
all depends on how long you want to wait
I'm not even going to say what I gave for mine! (01). It was a dealer ,but he must have been very hungry! Of course, it doesn't stop with the purchase price. Small mods turn into big mods, and it doesn't stop 'till your wallet is flat!

not trying to sound short sighted, i'm just saying, put yourself in my shoes, look on the sights for corvettes (coupe, manual are mandatory) in the NE (200miles or so from 10918) that are in mint condition (assuming ~1k in general maintenance) for under $17k.....they don't exist.
I would say that I feel 16K is a fair price, The car looks clean, Low Miles and like you said you can fix the issues it has, It really depends on how bad you want the car, You olny live once and you can't take the money with you. You may find one cheaper, But I think it would have more miles on it.
Just my 2 cents.

Another one in Mr. Bills camp
BTW, it looks like the steelership is trying to live up to the stereotype - 3 hours to fix the dim HVAC!
Hang tight now, he will get back to you and accept. You are an excellent and very fair negotiator...maybe you should consider working for the United Nations, lol. The car looks great and I think you found an good inspection person that documented even the little stuff, so you can be confident that there will be few surprises. Good luck and keep us posted. Rob

The best advice is not to worry about if everyone else thinks you got the greatest deal possible. If you think you got a good deal for the vehicle that you want, then that's all that matters. Don't worry if there is one vehicle in Alaska that you could have gotten for $500 cheaper. If you're happy with the deal, then go for it!
When I bought mine back in 2006, I probably paid $1000 more than I should have at the dealer, but it was the exact color I wanted with every option I wanted and low mileage. I have driven it and enjoyed it for 6 years now, so to me it was a great deal.
What a Vette should cost really depends on where you live. If you were willing to travel out of the NY area you could probably find a better deal, but within it that's a decent price. For example, I paid 17k for my 2000 with 68k miles on it, a spotless Carfax, a relatively new paint job, and the only problems it had were leaking valve cover grommets, a bad oil sending unit, squeaky sway bar bushings, and a rearview mirror that had a tendency to drop down on every bump. I even managed to talk the dealer with his no-haggle pricing down $500 off the original price because I paid cash, but I live in TX, not NY.
I searched 3 months for my car. I simply did not see many C5's with the less than 60k miles for less than 18k. This includes EBay, Craiglist and Autotrader. I would challenge anyone to post links to cars with the same mileage and shape as the OP posted for the price he can get that car. Since many say there are better deals out there please post these deals. 16k around here will get you a C5 with over 100k miles on it. I keep hearing he can get a better deal but I do not see anyone posting better deals. Put up or show up.
The oil leaks would be my main concern. The rest of it is normal on these cars. I would tell him to make the repairs and pay him $17,600. Or tell him to take the price of the repairs off the asking price. I looked up the price and he is reasonable, IMO.
But that's me. You have to decide what you are willing to pay.

there was an 02 z06 with 30k that just sold for 20k on here. yes it's 20k but that's a LOT more car and resale for 2k
it's not that i would use the word overpriced, i would just say that a 2001 is a better value and sells for similar money. you also happen to be in the worst time of year to buy a corvette. generally oct-feb are buy months.
I paid exactly $17k for my 01 Z back in Nov of 2011.
I think you could have gotten a better deal. I'd use the word fair. You didn't get ripped off, but you didn't get the deal of the century either. However, if you're happy with the price and the car, that is all that matters! It looks a pretty clean 'Vette!
If the car is in good condition you did good. Condition is everything, can't tell from just year and mileage.
The 01 oil burner Z with 107K miles and needing work wouldn't interest me, but to each their own. Wouldn't really call that an equivalent or better deal personally.
