Please l am looking for an auto low miles close to 20,000 convertible
Hi
I can't believe that l can't find the right vert and another member can't find the right coupe. And we are both looking for the same kind of
Vette in the right condition.
2001-04
Mostly stock
Under 20,000 miles or close
No mods except exhaust, cold air intake etc
No accidents or paint work.
Auto
Z-51
3:15 perf rear
We are both willing to pay a fair price and the ones that are available
Are priced as high as a C6.
No dealer's because both of us want to see who owned it.
Checked every avenue, EBay is mostly dealer's auto trader the same plus high mileage, cars.com makes o sense but again mostly dealers.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

You may need to relax some of your requirements. Such as less then 20,000 miles. I realize there are some C5 out there with low miles, but to meet everything you want is a little hard. I have an '01 with less then 40K and most people I talk to say it is low mileage.
Lets look at the 2001 model year. A total of 35,627 Corvette's were produced, and less then half were convertibles. Only a third of all those produced were equipped with the 3:15 axle and only a fifth were equipped with the Z51 option, and that does not factor in those that were the MN6 cars. So that reduces the amount of Z51 automatics, plus the 20K mile limit you set. The numbers do not improve for the '02-'04 range, in act the numbers drop.
Last but not least you make it even harder by want a private owners.
If I'm buying used, I personally prefer a car with some miles on it. That way I know systems are lubed due to use. Gaskets / seals dry out if just sitting in a garage. I think it is more important to find a car that the owner paid attention to detail both cosmetically and mechanically. Miles don't matter as much if the car is well maintained.
The car I bought was dealer maintained from day one and I could verify the records. It had 168,000 miles on it when I bought it and has been flawless. It now has 181,000 miles and I smile every time I drive it. I have yet to have anyone guess the car has more than 50,000 miles. The only reason they guess that high is because I tell them it is a high mileage Vette.
If you want a show car, expect to pay show car prices. Otherwise, relax some of your requirements and find one you will enjoy. Good Luck!!!

Depending on how close your are to florida, there is a guy here that has some low mileage C5s.

Well, there is one from 1997 sitting on my driveway right now. Pampered, stored winters, all gremlins repaired as they came up, no engine internal mods...just the better breathing stuff, coilovers, etc. 57 k miles and drives like new!
Champagne taste vs beer budget? Just what is a fair price, I'm sure the seller will feel different than the buyer! There are tons of show quality low millage verts out there. The problem is that owners of such cars tend to see them as an investment and don't need to sell them at rock bottom prices. The great deals on premium cars do happen but are few and far in between. Just be patient and keep a sharp eye out. Good luck.

The cars are out there - just be patient and not sure what geographical area you have looked in, but if you haven't searched nationally, you may need to. I traveled to NJ to get my '03 coupe with 8500 miles on it back in Sep 09.

It took 5 months for me to finally find and close the deal on my 04 MY Vert. Just bought it in May. Yep, I was super fussy also. In the end, I went about $1000 over my top limit and had to drive the car 900 miles to get it home. I'll also say that it is the best Vette that I could find anywhere, except for possibly the 700 mile car that was posted on the forum earlier. Mine had 2700 miles and might even have been just as good. It took me 5 months to find and buy the car. I looked at hundreds of them online and saw about a dozen in person before buying this one. The biggest issue for me was that many cars looked like they were driven on salty roads in spring. The engine bays looked like the salt started to dull the aluminum engine castings and suspension parts. I ended up buying my car in Charlotte because I figured if it was ever driven in spring, there wouldn't be any salt and with the low miles, that was unlikely anyway since the miles were so low. Again, I'm quite happy with what I paid for it, but many people on the forum would think I paid to much. I certainly could have bought a 30K mile early C6 for what the car cost me.
I won't provide advice as I'm only a rookie vette guy. I will however say that I wouldn't shy away from a dealer car if the dealer is reputable and the car was owned locally (or could be traced). My car had all of the history with it as a 1 owner and the dealer provided it all.
By the way, there was a Silver / Red interior Vert on this forum in spring for around $24K. I think it was a 2001. I couldn't get there quick enough to buy it, but it looked like a deal. Bottom line, stick with it. Never know when the right one will show up.
Either you haven't looked long enough or you might be a little too picky. What seems to be the biggest problem you are comming up against. Too many miles? Wrong color? There are alot of nice Vettes out there. I think you have to be patient and you will find one you like.

Ones with super low miles like you are looking for go for a LOT more. Just look at finished listings on ebay. A 99 Vert with less than 20,000mi is going to bring 20thou +. Same car with 60K more like 15. So you want an 01 up with those sort of miles...you are going to have to pay for it. People go nuts over these low mile museum pieces.
I saw the same thing shopping for C4s. A super low mile car was into C5 money. What you are asking for is a $50,000 car, that's still new, for pennies on the dollar. I doubt you will find one but best of luck.
My personal take on the super low milers, in any old car, is what do you do with it? If you start driving it and adding miles, the money you spent for a museum piece is now gone.
Took me eights months to buy my first.. Looked at over 30 verts before i found the right one.. Then pulled a trailer from texas to flordia (10 hour there - 10 hours back) and i would of waited longer if i had... An still even 5 & 10 years ago i paid 30g's for each vert that was perfect stock, no rain, never slept outside, and under 8k miles. I know the market has gone down alot over the years but even back then those type's of vettes were still around 30g's. So if your looking for that type of vette i know owners are still wanting to get high 20g's closer to 30. So if you are going to spend 30 why not upgrade an get the newer technology and get into a C6 for just a little more. The C6 is a fine car and for the same money for me its a no-brianer.
Just my opinion though.
