Im a little nervous about buying this 2000 black on black vert. nice top, good paint, rip in driver seat, runs great, clean car fax. has had 4 owners. florida car 78k miles. automatic trans. now for the part that scares me. needs 2 front tires ($350). has a squeak sound coming from one of the pulleys (cant tell where its coming from). air blows so so. also sounds like the right rear break pad sensor is squeaking with or without the pedal being pushed. (sound does change when i hit the break). Rims are pitting. has heads up display and corsa exhaust with headers. everything else is stock. I know pics would be nice but I dont have any. I can get it for $12k. is this good. could the sqeaks be more than a few hundred bucks?
you have anwsered your own question keep looking or offer 11k and have 1k to fix things. You can also ask owner if you could take it to a local shop to give you a price to fix said issues and mabey find more or tell you hey good car buy it just my .02
take a pass on this one, don't second guess yourself. You have answered your own question with the observations you have made on this poorly looked after Vette.
Kelly it's not the price that should concern you, although we all have a limited amount that we can spend. It 's the fact that the EBCM on pre 2001 models can't be fixed or acquired new. The EBCM controls the anti lock brake system and traction control "If" it ever fails you will lose the traction control option and the anti lock brakes. However the brakes will still function properly. How many times does one actually use this feature and ditto for traction control ( helps if you are drive in slippery conditions). To get the most out of mu vert I disable the traction control feature each time I drive.
I have a 2000 vert that has performed excellently since the 20 months that I have owned it. However, if I was aware of this forum prior to my purchase I may have bought at least a 2001 model since I paid considerably more for my 2000 vert from the dealer.
I have been told from forum members that one of the reasons that the EBCM may fail is from lack of use of the pump that is part of the assembly. They have suggested that one takes his/her car up to 40 mph and slam on the brakes . This will activate the pump and keep it functional. I have tried this at least 3 times and it has worked. I get a message on the DIC that "ABS is active" That's good since my vert has only 17,700 miles on it and is 12 years old and therefore the ABS function probably had rarely been used.
Considering the number of pre 2001 vets that have been sold, the failure of the EBCM has been very rare based on the complaints that I have read on this forum.
Well after this analysis I feel a lot better regarding the EBCM on pre 2001 vets.
Good luck!

Kelly, We just bought a garage queen, one lady owned since new, 44K miles red vert for $17K. Absolutely spotless. I'll post more info about it later to the group (and many many thanks for all the very kind help from the group!!!).
The problems I see with the car that you are looking at (keeping in mind that the red vert is my first vette), is that it's all black, which in FL is going to be really really hot with the top down. Maybe sheepskin seat covers would help but it's going to be hot. Also, and only my opinion, black does not show off the vette's curves well.
Of major concern are the modifications that have been made including the exhaust, headers, etc. Someone in the four previous owners (that's a lot of owners) (what do they know?), hot rodded the car and probably dogged it a bit more than a weekend cruiser.
The fact that it needs the two front tires may be an indication that the back two were replaced due to lots of burn outs. Again, just an indicator when all tires are not replaced at the same time.
We looked at a bunch of Vettes (I can now officially call them Vettes instead of Corvettes since I now own one :}, and stayed away from any that showed signs of poor maintenance, high mileage, and hot rod indicators. We wanted a nice gentle cruiser that was babied its entire life.
Per the groups advice, they are out there. $12K might seem like a great deal as the buy-in but the replacement big parts get a bit pricey later on for a dogged car.
