Default slick sizes

Hey guys,

I own a 2003 z06, been to the track a few times on street tires, i was thinking about getting slicks.

I was just wondering if anyone is running slicks on there stock rims, if so what sizes / brand are you running?

thanks appreciate it

Everyone runs the biggest STREET tires that will clear. However RACE tires are a completely different animal! I run Dunlop SLICKS (not R compound) tires from GT Tires a Forum Vendor. I bought 265X18 fronts and 285X18 rears because they were CHEAP......($50each). These small tires, which will easily fit on any street rim/body, will stick MUCH, MUCH better than ANY street tire or R-compound (3 or 4 seconds per lap). They are "Scrubs" and had more than 50% left, but will time or cycle out before they wear out. GT Tire doesn't currently carry Dunlop slicks, but they DO carry Pirelli Cup tires and Michelin slicks. They may be more expensive, but I don't run with a sanctioning organization like SCCA or NASA, just track days like HPDE, so there is no legality issue. I just run them because they are cheap and save my expensive street tires for the street. Race tires DO need heat though, and expect 2 or 3 warmup laps (or more in the winter). The starting pressure may be a little lower (20/22 lbs) than street tires, and they have a norrower "window" of stick or slip before they let go. For track days you just can't beat them, but look for stick, NOT size

Best option to start out would be to get some 17" front wheels and a 275/40/17 drag radial.

M/T, Nitto NT05R, Hoosier all make a good tire for your appllication.

If you're going to drive on the street, I'd lean toward the MT or Nitto, if you're changing tires at the track, get the Hoosiers.

I run Hoosier 275/40x17 fronts and 305/30/18 rears with great results.
