I sent phy "the best thread ever posted". There's a disclaimer statement in that thread which reads "You hear about planes crashing more than you hear about them landing".

Odds are that deal is going to work out well for you. I would pursue it. It's 10 model years old now. And so is every 03 out there. Nobody wants issues. That's just the nature of the beast like SFC says. C6 have their issues as well. I really don't think you're going down the path of your 97 at all. My 03Z buyer has put 5K on top of 24 and has had no issues, made no changes, except the mod shifter going into 5th being hard. He went back to stock shifter, did a tint, and has been indicated complete satisfaction over purchase many time over.

I had my Vette up for sale for $14,000 for about 3 months now because I was fed up with all the issues and making an extra car payment for a car that I can only drive for the most part 4 months out of the year. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun 4 months. I am concerned with some of the issues that come with the 2003 that was forwarded to me by 6GenVettes. Thank you by the way. You could end up with a car with no issues or it could have a bunch or somewhere in between. It's luck of the draw really. If you are really worried about having to work on it, buy a Honda instead and forget about it. When you are looking at 10 year old sports cars, issues come with the territory.

also, need to consider cost of sales tax...here it's 6% of the new car...don't know what it is in your state, but if counting pennies it is a significant factor in the overall deal.

Default Should I, or Should I not?

I assume that the car is from a dealer. If so, you are paying a bit of a premium for the car but what you are buying is a solid dealer warranty too, for the price.

Make sure that the dealer is providing a warranty on it and find out what it covers.

We looked at an '03 Anniversary here in Florida at a major Chev dealership, $23K/78K miles and the dealer was selling it AS-IS, no warranty at all. Not good especially for the price. (While we were doing the code check, the battery went dead and we couldn't start it. We bought one elsewhere).

Also, and maybe this is specific to Florida, the dealers add a Dealer Fee to all sales. In this case, I just happened to ask the sales (slimy) manager if there was a fee and he said they add $695 to all sales, so that was on top of the "already lowest price" of $23K.

Again, we bought elsewhere.

Check the tires to see if the tread depth is the same all around (Someone might have dogged it). From a dealer, the car is going to be fully detailed so there is not much you can tell from that but check the codes for past and new problems. If the dealer does not let you check the codes, walk away...Bob/FL (New to us RED! 2000 Vert, 44k miles, one lady owned, $17k, pristine, no mods, garage kept...)

Warranty on an 03? I know you can purchase one for most anything from these warranty companies. But they generaly are expensive and only cover the drive train. On a C5 that's the parts that don't normally cause an issue. I'm not sold on the idea.

I agree with the others that it sounds like a good deal given everything wrong with yours.

Proceed to Park Place, don't pass Go and don't worry about the $200. Trade NOW and you won't regret it.

He didn't want or find a C6, he wanted and found a C5 Z06 at a good deal. He could also buy a Cadillac for that price, but guess what, that wasn't what he asked about.
