I had to repair the seat on the driver side and discovered what GM should have done. Most of you know how the foam gets cut by the seat rails. If your original seats are in good condition I would suggest taking them apart and put something between the foam and the seat rails. Forgive me if this is old news but I thought I would bring it up for any newbe.
Not enough profit in a 70 thousand dollar car I guess
Agreed. Prob is GM over engineered the car in other failure prone areas (dual climate control, column lock, radio backlight, skip-shift, etc) and didn't use quality parts.
To be fair, in 1997 not many cars came with "quality" parts lol.
Can you install the wire enlarging material of choice from the bottom and not have to remove the seat cover and foam?
No When u have an issue with the bolster on drivers seat, it's to late. I put 1/4 " felt between the seat rails an the foam. I replaced the bolster foam with high density foam. It's very expensive but it works. About $40 for the Foam.
This is why u have to install the felt at the least. Pulling a seat out is easy an necessary. I have 50k on my vette when seat bolster was cut in two The passenger seat was ok looking at it but, it was failing. The foam was starting to be sliced by the seat rail. Lol weight has a issue with the bolster failing lol

OK not enough profit in a 38 to 50 thousand dollar car then.
Still in my opinion Corvettes and also Cadillacs should have near zero issues when bought new. GM seems to go out of their way to damage their brands instead of just building a premiere car with minimal issues
