Plastidip.... Racing Stripes?!?
I plan on removing them in a few months, or at least re-doing them now that I know what I'm doing and can make a better quality job.
So, I made my own racing stripes. They're similar to the ones offered on VetteStripes.com but I wanted a few changes.
These are 8" wide stripes which are 7" apart in the middle, which is just enough to clear the emblem to make things easy. I overall like them, although they look like the "bumblebee" pattern on the yellow Camaros, and I don't want to look like a copycat.
I masked off and measured out all the lines, and put extra painters paper around to mask off the interior and other parts. I painted the Grand Sport stripes but removed them shortly after painting. They were a bit much with the racing stripes.

I used 4 cans, which gave me 5-6 coats. I did it continuously, starting at the front and working to the back, and then restarting to do all the coats.
Now, I made a BIG mistake which was finishing everything and then going back and removing the tape. By the time I removed the tape the Plastidip was too dry and it tore off HORRIBLY. This was my stupidity, you need to remove the tape almost immediately after the last coat or else it won't leave a clean line.
The whole time I had planned for uneven lines (though not as uneven as they turned out), and had bought some 1/4" vinyl pinstripe material. I lined the edges of the stripes with the pinstriping, it gives it a flat black with gloss black edge, and it evens out the lines and makes for a cleaner appearance.

I don't like how the "corvette" logo turned out. I have a few ideas on how to clean it up, but its definitely being redone. Other than that I am pretty pleased with how the stripes turned out, and the pinstriping edge looks great IMO. It has a smoother surface than it appears in the images, I took the pictures right after I was done so it was not 100% dry yet.

All in all, it took me about 4 hours all inclusive, and about $40.
I am not really satisfied with the total result, but am very satisfied in proving the concept. With a little more skill and patience, and better design, I think it has great potential.
Alright, I have my flamesuit on, so flame away
I can always add it though, I suppose I should to see if I like it, thats the great part about plastidip!

Bring it outside for more pics & show the whole car for a better perspective. Also next time, take pics of your 'mistake' anyways (eg; GS stripes). At the very least you'd have footage of everything.
