Default Shifter **** "retainer"?

What is the purpose of the little metal wedge in the top of the stock M6 shifter ****? Is it a replacement for a lock nut... to keep the **** from turning on the threaded shaft?

You answered your own question. A jam nut can work loose, the "demon key" pretty much locks the **** in place.

Thanks. I bought a new **** at the Des Moines "Goodguys" street rod event a couple of weeks ago.... the **** had the USAF logo...which I hadn't seen anywhere before. I didn't know the thread size of the C5 shifter rod, but the vendor was SURE his **** would fit.... well, of course it didn't. Anyway, in the process of removing the stock ****, I managed to lose the metal wedge. While waiting for the correct size **** to get here, I put the original handle back on sans the wedge. Guess It won't hurt anything,,,,, it's so tight on the threads it doesn't move, even without the wedge.

Sounds like something one of my ex-Navy co-workers would say. I don't mind flying with them, other than they don't appreciate the nice, long (13,000 ft) AF-style runway we have here in Lincoln... they think the first 900 feet is perfectly adequate
