tire advice
Heres my dilemna:
This car is my daily driver.
If I run the Advans I will get much better longevity, the tires may last me a year.
If I run the 888s the tires will probably only give me three to four months.
the cost is close to the same per set, but the 888s will cost four times as much per year to run on my daily hard diven occasionally HPDE and Autocrossed car.
So here is the question....are the Proxes going to give me four times the grip and car control?
Thanks in advance.
as an aside, my car is mostly stock with some upgraded Hawk HPS pads SS brake lines, hotchkis sway bars and bilstein sport shocks...it has a lightweight faster reving flyingwheel and an MGW shifter in case that factors in.
thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.
Would it not be better to own TWO set, one for street and one set for the OCCASIANAL track? (Sorry don't know your budget, but just saying)..

that would be great, but its hard to justify not putting the 3k or so for a second set of wheels into some other mod considering that I only plan on hitting the track every couple of months....I have a budget of about $1,500 to $2,000 a month that I can put into the car without really pissing the wifey off.
I'm working on upgrading whatever feels like the weakest link in the car at the time. Meaning whatever feels the loosest, or hinders me from having command of the car the way I like it. I want the car to feel tight around me like it is an extension of my body, I know that sounds kinda weird, but I think its the safest and funnest way to go fast.
The first thing that felt the loosest to me was the body roll, so I upgraded the sway bars amd shocks and am comfortable with that for now...from there the weakest link was that stock shifter, I just felt like it was so loosy goosy that it was distracting me from really enjoying and feeling the car when going in and out of curves and shifting up and down in aggressive driving. I put the MGW in and all is well in that area.
at the moment the two things that feel the weakest, or the loosest when doing some aggressive driving is the seats, followed by the tires...so next on the list with be some full on one piece racing seats that feel solid but that are still comfortable, because I am a big guy the stock seats just feel like they have way to much give in hard cornering.
But I know already that those Michiline Pilot Sports have to go very very soon, they are just way too loose for me, I like the way they break loose in a very predictable controlled way, but they just are'nt cutting it.
after the seats and tire upgrade I suspect I may finally be ready for a little more power, but not much...i want control more than power right now but a little more power could come in handy ;-)....
about the driving lol
I was a paramedic when I was younger and have seen first hand what stupid can do to your body and family, so I am "controlled" aggressive behind the wheel if that makes sense...most of the time I drive like an old man cruising along with my top down, but once everyday I hit one of the little curvy secret spots that I have found around where I live, that oddly for Southern California are not filled with traffic. So I get about 20 minutes a day of some pretty hard but not wreckless driving in with no other cars around ;-)
but 100 mph on a short straight between canyon road curves might seem wreckless to others lol....I don't push the car to its absolute cornering amd breaking limit though, so that doesn't feel wreckless to me lol
i don't drive aggressive at all around other drivers on the street, except of course watching the mortal cars get small in the rear view pulling away from stop lights ;-)....but thats almost obligitory with vettes isn't it? :-)

You may want to try the Nitto Invo, they have strong solid rubber shoulders for gripping the canyon turf... Be careful, I've seen many wrecks on mountain roads in my job, and I leave all that "aggressive" driving to a track where my skills won't get me killed hugging a tree or rock with my C5 wrapped around me.... Be safe...

alas, the Invo doesn't come in the sizes I need...
I'm with ya on the be quick but be safe thing ;-)
fun but not wreckless is my motto...
the guy who first taught me to drive when I was a teenager was a former racer/instructer who became a cop...my mother and grandfather were cops and I didnt have a father around, so the cops where mymom worked played the role a bit...I took some of the police training driver courses and had some good teachers when I was first learning, those lessons stick with me, especial cause I had a serious accident in my early twenties to drive the lessons home. Plus, again, I was a paramedic and saw those same messes you have probably seen :-|
some training and some common sense will usually keep ya safe...and of course, never putting yourself in a position where you risk the safety of others.
