Default Hoodliners...

Anyone here that do not have a hood liner on their ride?

Really, what is the real purpose of the hood liner? I am curious to see what you all have to say.

I think it is to supress a underhood fire. The plastic tabs melt then it falls on the fire to hopefully smother it?

This is what I have heard. But removing the hoodliner will not do any damage. I ran an MCM hood on my '00 for many years (without a hoodliner) and never had any problems at all.

Does it insulate the hood at all to protect it from heat? If not I may see how mine looks without it.

Toque had posted a thread earlier about removing his hood liner. His looked really nice underneath.

I removed mine last week as I installed a custom hoodliner with the embroidered logo, stitching etc. While my OEM hoodliner was removed, I noticed that my paint underneath was not as nice as Toque's paint. Plus the wire to the underhood light was showing. Not a pretty sight.

The hoodline is there as others stated to put out a fire.

But if you take it off it looks like crap underneath it because it's not painted from the factory. I was going to run without mine until I got a new one because it got damaged from my belt coming off and I ended up leaving it on because it looks so bad underneath it.

By the time it gets that hot the damage is done.

If it was there to surpress a fire, then why don't all cars come with them?

It's there to absorb engine noise, that's why luxury cars all have them!

I have heard about it not being painted under neath the liner and that will make my decision a quick one; it is staying on. I ripped mine last weekend and I wasn't going to replace it, but I am now. Some of the posts here made me laugh. Appreciate that!

Where'd you get the liner with the embroidered logo?

Great work! I will be posting pics in another thread soon. I also had them make me a custom ID plate as well as a matching 3-piece trunk lid cover for my vert.

I removed mine. It was rubbing on my new Fast92/LS2 Air coupler.

I might have it painted in the future. I'm still thinking of what I might do with the underside though. Something will hit me one of these days.

For now I like the bare look.

That's the one I got about four months ago. Absolutely first class in every respect.

The hoodliner is very dark black and similar in appearance to the felt material you see on a pool table. The red embroidered C5 Logo with red Corvette lettering that I ordered is amazing. Nothing cheezy looking about this product. Reasonable price and quick delivery. I'm very very picky about what goes on my C5. This was a great decision.

Strongly recommend these Motorsports hoodliners and the vert trunk liners too.
