Hi guys, so I just bought an 04 c5z, car has 38k miles on it, and so far everything has been great but I have noticed an odd noise. Now I know the c5z's tend to be a bit noisy, especially drive line, but I am not sure about this one. I made a video, but the noise isn't always this loud, I am wondering if it is the clutch chattering or something. I am going to do the ranger method and clean the fluid out right now and see if that makes a difference. Let me know what you guys think.
Kind of hard to distinguish what noise you are listening to but it sounds a little like transmission whine. Mine makes a noticeable whine depending on what gear I'm in and how much throttle I'm giving it. Not sure it sounds just like that but it's hard to pick that up in the vid.

Transmission whine is normal then? It makes that noise in every gear, also, it will make a similar noise when the car is just sitting their in neutral and I rev to 2k or so.
Does it happen all of the time? My car makes a similar whine when hot (and by hot, I mean really hot - like after a 20 minute HPDE session), but does not make the sound when cold or warm. Checked most of the accessories (alternator, etc.) using the screwdriver method - and could not hear anything. A couple of guys at the track (mechanics or engineers, include one corvette engineer) thought it might be my idler pulley. The consensus was to keep driving and wait until the noise gets worse.

Interesting, When I took it out today, I really didn't notice the sound. So it definitely seems to intensify as the car gets hot. I live in LA, so there is a lot of stop and go and the car seems to warm up a bit. It seems like my fans don't kick on until I turn my A/C on. I read that it could be a fuse that went out. That's another topic though, I will do some research on that myself as well.
I will look into more if the noise gets worse, also I will change out the trans fluid and diff oil and we will see if that makes a difference.
If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to chime in.
