I was just listening to NPR and they ran a story about how insurance companies are putting devices in cars to track HOW you drive, i.e. how how often you brake hard and accelerate hard etc lol
if you use the device you get a much lower insurance rate, unless you drive like you have a corvette Lmao...
if that catches on enough I'm screwed, cause you can bet insurance will go through the roof for those who dont use the device if we become a minority...hah, and if I DID use it I'd be really screwed on insurance rates lol

1984 Brother....... We see you, we know what you're doing, and we'll make LOTS of money off you!
This already in the works...... The authorities will be notified when you speed, make unauthorized violations and NEVER have to actually issue a ticket. The violations will be uploaded electronically and the fine will be deducted from your bank account.
Get a little pedal happy while driving home and before you toss the keys on the table, there'll be a notice of how much your account has been drained.
No joke....what was once imaginary is soon reality!
I just changed to Progressive and they offer "up to" a 30% discount if you use their snapshot device. But they told me you might around a 10-15% discount realistically if you drive like 10 miles a day and you dont ever drive between 12am-5am. They said no one ever gets 30% unless you never drive your car.
Stupidist thing I've ever heard...we live in a free society....might as well put a 4 cylinder in your car then....of course while the device is installed we will be good boys.....tell them to F&&^ right off and maintain our freedom to be not under 24hr surveillance....I refuse to live in that kind of world
They'll never have one of those in any of my cars! How about having a GPS device in all of your cars so the government can track how many miles you drive so they can tax you for each mile you drive. That's been talked about too.
On a side note cities with toll roads that use EZ tags or whatever you call them locally, are considering ticketing based on the time it takes you to travel between toll gates. Set distance traveled in too short a time means you were speeding. I heard someplace already is doing this, but I have not verified it.

You already have a tracking device on your car if it has OnStar.

Ive been hearing of this for years and have never heard of anything concrete validating it. Until I do, Im calling it
I was resetting my Garmin for a road trip last week in my van and it had my top speed at 145mph from when I experimented with it for the first session at Daytona (in the vette lol). I left that in there. Logger may be a good idea for some people, but not for me.
Last I heard, those capture devices don't punish you, they just don't reward you. You may not get a discount if you drive aggressively, but your rates won't increase.
That doesn't mean that in the future that won't change, but as of right now its fairly harmless.

I was flying one time with my old garmin and out of curiosity tried to turn it on and see if I could get it to pick it up. After a minute or so it actually did connect and I had a 400MPH~ top speed. I left that, too
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
