Default hypothetical E.T. just for fun!

I'm debateing if I should buy my old hot rod back or put some more money in my "99" coupe. My old rod would run 11.40s on 100 shot of gas and I would like to have my vette do close to that as I miss the rush that the old hot rod gave me! i would really have to sell my vette if I buy My old rod back as I at 65 really cant keep up with two cars!
my car has a black wing, 3.15 gears, and long tubes, xpipe, catback etc.. If I went ahead and put some 3.70s in it and slicks, dyno tune, and maybe a 100 shot whats your best guess at my E.T.?
I could do this for about $4000.00 which is a lot less than the $22,000 that i will have to pay to get my old 5 window back!
I can actually afford to have both cars but this never seems to work out for me as I like to concintrate on only one car at a time.
Hell, give me a guess, could I be in the mid to high 11s on this set up?

You should have no problem hitting that number with those mods but it's still not going to give you the rush your hot-rod did. My old 12.5 second Camaro felt way faster than my high 11 sec Vette. It was louder, got sideways when it launched, pulled the front end up a bit, was way louder, and got squirrelly at the top end. It was also handful to stop with poor braking. The Vette is a smooth transition of power, never gets loose, moderately quiet in comparison, and I feel much safer in the Vette. What rush is in that!?!?! Your Hot-Rod will give you that rush- plus it is waaaaaay cooler!

You say you can afford both- then enjoy both. That old coupe is a beauty. Your Vette is also a beauty. Enjoy both. If we could only do that with women!!!!

yea 11's no problem especially with the juice, you definitely want a higher stall as well (I assume you have an auto due to the 3.15 rear end)

for reference my car with intake/ LT headers/z06 ti exhuast/3.15 rear end and mail order tune ran a 12.2 @ 114mph on street tires...

check out the C5 1/4 mile quick list to get a better idea of what people have done

Thanks for the reply and yes, I may just keep my Vette as every time I sell one I start regreting it the next day! I LOVE C-5s!!!
Now for a stupid question, What is a zo6 ti exhaust? Is it the cat back or what? I have the Barsonni cat back on mine and with the XS_Power long tubes and highflow cats and 3 inch x pipes it sounds "BADAZZ" at least to me

I like the rod but your vette has power steering and air and
it's fast. You won't have any trouble making your et.

I'd definitely stick with the Vette. No offence but that coupe doesn't look like anything I'd care to do 11s in....but that's me.

I got the itch too. Just picked up a 99 S10 I'm going to build into a strictly drag truck. Never should have went to Norwalk with my buddy.

BTW, there was a red C5 there running in Stock Eliminator. It was going 10.50s. Granted not very streetable but just saying and that's obviously not spraying it.

I'd build the C5 to do what you want it to do in the 1/4 mile. You can then drive it across country through rain, in air conditioned comfort and get 30 miles per gallon. I doubt you can do the same in the hi-boy.

No offence taken but the coupe made well over one hundred passes in the quarter and the eigth mile and never a problem! it was built "right" and was a very safe car at speed. Disc brakes, driveshaft loop, full boxed frame, roll cage, front stableizer and rear panhard bar with fully adjustable 4-bar setup.
it's seen 140 mph plus and drove like it was on rails! my 1.59 60ft time put many a street car and lots of Vettes in the rear view mirror. i will admit it could be a bit of a handfull if you hit the "juice" to early but It really got the adrenalin going when the interior filled up with "Micky Thompsons" tire smoke! call me but i love this stuff!

Going to a track is the worst thing a motor head can do, gets very very exspensive. Building a purpose built car or truck is the way to go, but before you get too deep think about where you want it to be in 3 years. Might be, no, will be much cheaper buying one already done. There are all kinds of rollers out there for cheap, and somebody else has done all the labor for ya.

I half heartedly tried to sell my "old" hotrod. But you practically have to give them away around here. So I kept it. I drive it to the track, bolt on the slicks, and it has gone 9.40's easy on the spray. 10.0 NA on pump gas. Problem is, what do you do with a 700hp car with a cage, 5 mpg, etc besides a cruise in from time to time and drive it to and from the track?

I bought my C5 so I could have the best of both worlds. Well, not as fast, but at least in the bottom 11's, NA, and be able to go anwhere in it, and even get decent mileage. As you said, low 11's is still a fun ride.
I've just made a few hits in the Vette, and am in the 11.30's at 121+ in the heat. I think it can tickle the tens. Cam is small, and it is getting 16mpg in to and from work driving. I drive it every day. It is a frickn hot rod! I'm loving it. And yes it's an A4. I love that too.

You can easily meet your goal with a 100 shot. I would think for a lot less than 4000 bucks. Shoot, leave the 3.15's in it.
What does it run now? BTW, drag radials work excellent on these cars.

Ron

Yeh, no wipers for the rain, no A.C. or heater for that matter,no power seats or windows,no sound system to speak of except the really loud pipes, and my old rod rides like a "buckboard" plus it gets around 10 m.p.g. with the curry 9 inch with 3.89 gears and a "spool"! no room in the trunk for the ole golf clubs [if I played, which I don't] with the fuel cell, roll bars ,battery, nitrous bottle etc. taking up all the space!
I think I'll give just the vette to the wife!
I can't wait to get my hot rod back

No much of a sales pitch-you drive a car with a spool on the street? Sounds more like a back killer than a fun car.

Yeh, I'm Old School crazy like that! My last street rod before the"A" was a 1923 "T" bucket with a GMC 671 blown 327 small block with 2-4s and a B&M hydro! Wheely bars, roll bar, and 18 inch wide slicks to boot.
I'm a senor citizen now so I have toned it down though.
Anybody can wax a car, It takes a man to chop one up
P.S. The wife will love the Vette and at least she will drive it. I've put all of 500 miles on It In the last year.

With today's tech, you can have a supercharged car that idles perfect and gets 25+ mpg and has all the modern goodies in it-why would you go old school? AND, it can go AROUND CORNERS!
