Anyone else have this problem before I tear the console apart?
My wife was on her way home in the vette and running on fumes, what new, and stops to get gas and the gas cap release does nothing. She makes it home but I can't get it open either.

It is a stock 2004 convertible....
Any suggestions???
Thanks.
Isn't there a manual release cable in the trunk for this reason. I think I read something about it in the owners manual. I think on the left side of trunk inside.

Yep, I just checked mine. There is a small black handle marked fuel door release inside the trunk right behind the trim at the rear of the wheel well. But you will still need to check , maybe a fuse blew for the gas door switch.

Check the fuse first. If not that, then it could be the switch or the actuator at the fuel door. Here's some files in case it is the actuator that is bad.

Thanks for the help. Is the fuse behind the kick panel on the passenger side? Which # fuse?
Thanks.
Got a manual, this is quicker and easier most of the time.
Found the manual release, it was tucked behind the plastic wheel well.
Checked the fuse and it was good. Press the release button in the car and nothing, before if you barely touched it it would fly open. Time to dig deeper.

If you've had your center console out before, you might want to check the connector to see if it's partially/completely unplugged. While you there, you can also check for voltage to the switch, in case you have a pinched/damaged wire.
Awesome. Two problems solved. Tore apart the console and the electrical connector to the fuel door switch was loose, snapped it back in and walla, works perfect again.
I also found that my front cigarette lighter had a blown fuse, replaced and now it works too.
What an awesome start to the day. Its sunny and 75 today, California weather and I'm heading to the Chicago crew monthly lunch at the Tilted Kilt. Life is good!!!
