Default Changing oil on a C5

Hey guy's, my sister drives a C5 and wants me to change her oil. What oil filter and part number do you recommend and how much oil goes in a C5, her's is an '03.

I use Mobil 1 in my C6....Thx.

All these "secrets" are in the Owners Manual.

5-30w is the manufacturer's recommended oil. as mentioned previously, your choice of synthetic. if you asked enough people here you would get virtually every brand as a favorite. if you are really **** about your car, the choice could be royal purple. for what it is worth, my personal choice is castrol edge which has out performed mobil 1 in some tests in the last year or so. look hard enough and you can make a case for virtually each and every oil out there.

Car must be level or higher in the rear. C5s have the oil drain plug in the front of the oil pan, so if you just pull front wheels up on ramps, you will leave a lot of oil in the pan. Raising the rear higher drains an additional 4 ounces of oil.

6.5 quarts is correct. There are two dipstick "systems", early years shows full at top mark (normal full mark), newer years shows full at middle mark (that's why some people overfill to 7 quarts). You are allowed to use 7.5 quarts if you go racing (track), but must drain out extra quart after you are done.

I use WIX or NAPA GOLD (same filter) oil filters, they flow and filter well.

Get some Mobil 1 5W-30 - the car takes 6.5 quarts. I use the AC Delco PF-46 filter on mine. And the procedure oldvetter mentions on raising the rear higher than the front when draining the oil is what I use.
