Default Radar Dectector Question

Does anyone know of a radar detector that can't be seen (detected) by LEO's in a state that prohibits these devices?

Just asking for a friend, I would never want one of these, even if they were available!

Thanks!

I believe Escort has a model that is untraceable. Valentine V1s do not, which is why it gets packed away the second I get into VA.

Heres a nice thread from a radar forum. The Beltronics STi Driver is the only one that was undetectable in the test. However, there are two or three installable units that were not tested that I believe are also undetectable.

I have used the Beltronics STi Driver without a problem. It has saved me many times all across the country.

The two windshield mounted radr detectors that are invisible to Spectre are the Beltonics STi Magnum and the Escort Redline. The two installed radar detectors that are invisible to Spectre are the Beltronics STiR+ and the Esort 9500CI

But doesn't that defeat the purpose of having it undetectable ??

I hear that you filp the sun visor down in daytime to hide it from view and at night, you turn it to the "dark" mode so the lights can't be seen by others. It isn't really that hard to see it at the top edge of your front windshield.

At least that is what others have told me... LOL

Undetectable? If you are going to take your chances and break the law, then man up and do it right!!!!! Do it naked (no detector). If you are going to dance, then be willing to pay the price!!!

I get sick and tired of reading posts from sissy little girls that can't understand why their detector didn't work and prevent the big $$$$ ticket they got!!!!!!!

If you are going to go there, then be ready, willing, and able to pay the price of the dance!!!!! And no, I am not an LEO. I just get tired of people who think that the rules apply to everyone else and not them!!!!!

Sniff,sniff......I think I smell Republicans here!!!!!!!!!!!

You can mount them in a position that they are not visible to others outside your car. Also hardwiring them eliminates the power cord dangling down your windshield.

In a way I kind of understand where you are coming from. However, since the average Traffic Law Enforcement agency in this country has increased their budgeting for radar/laser capability by 80% in the last three years, almost solely to enable greater revenue generation, I feel it is they who are increasingly violating the rules of fair play.

Since most fatalities/injuries come from drunk driving, red light/stop sign running, and extreme speeding, I'll continue to feel quite justified in protecting my wallet from city councils far more interested in generating revenue rather than saving lives.

Do any of these websites list, by state, where detectors are illegal? It would be nice to know this before any interstate road trip.

You can definately put Virginia on the list that prohibit the operation of radar detectors.

When I first posted my original question I had assumed the LEO's had some way to electronically determine if you were operating a detector.

Was that an incorrect assumption and is the only way theycan tell is by actually seeing the device in the car?

Or......do they use both methods of detecting your detector????

We have a weekly county paper that publishes the police (state and local) list of tickets, assults, etc. and every week several people are busted for illeagle use of radar detectors.

Inquiring minds want to know....How do they know?

I don't want to get too political on this, however even though I understand driving is a privilege and not a right, I think it is within my personal right to know if anyone (LEO or not) or some piece of electronic equipment is monitoring me. Whether that's radar, laser, etc. However, I can also understand the illegality of scrambling that radar or laser in an attempt to provide false positive reports. Simply using a detector should not be illegal IMO.

I'm going to try and find a list, by state, where the use of detectors is illegal and as the point made earlier, it's your choice to use it and pay the consequences if you get caught.

I know some shops can install detectors in the front fascia so you don't have them mounted in the cockpit. You can then use a remote LED indicator that fits underneath the dash or in some other place that can't be seen.

Yes, some VA police have radar detector detectors.
