I know this has been beat to death but I evidently posted some information that seems to be in error and want to clarify. 99 6spd BTW.
About a month ago I got the column lock messages and it wouldn't unlock.
I contacted Richard at Compliance and he offerd some sugestions on what to look at. I also ordered an LMC5 and Unlocker. So...I did the relay, battery,BCM fuse ect but nothing. Then I unhooked the ground o n the A-post and reconected it and WALA..it unlocked and has been working fine since.
That is until this morning. Went to get it out of the garage and same deal, messages and won't unlock. No amount of fiddling with the ground made a difference this time. So It evidently WAS NOT THE GROUND CONECTION as I reported here before. I installed the LMC5 and used the unlocker. Excellent instructions and now works fine.
Tommorow we are leaving for Watkins Glen. Thank goodness I decided to take it out and fuel up today. Also very fortunate I had the LMC5 and unlocker on hand. The unlocker will stay in the trunk...just in case.
Ya know, I also have a 72 MGB, 80 TR8 and S Type Jag in the stable. I'm sure you have heard all the jokes about Brit cars being unreliable....Lukas Prince of Darkness...Inventor of the intermitant wiper ect. Well I gotta say that this piece of GM crap inspires less confidence than any of those other toys.
Sure glad it happened when it did and you were able to get it to work again. Would have been a real PITA if it happened at Watkins Glen.
Amen!!! and thanks.
I had the LMC5 and intended to take it but really don't care to be doing Mcguiver stuff on the road. I've done my share over the years and makes great story telling but it sure ain't fun at the time.
Let me get this straight, you had a column lock issue, ordered the fix then didn't install it until the issue re appeared?
Brilliant.
I related my experiance to clear up my previous post about the ground point being the problem. I really though the problem was "fixed". I was wrong but I see no reason to get insulting about it. Oh well, it's the internet.

Kind of a harsh statement don't you think? You can't blame the car for you procrastinating. Sure, the column lock issue is a pain in the **** but an easy fix.
You can always sell the "piece of GM crap" and buy another awe inspiring British sportscar. I'm just saying.

OK, I'll admit I threw that out in the heat of the moment. I also have to admit the other cars would not be as reliable as they are without the many mods I've done to them...well except the Jag which is stock. Time will tell with it. I really do love this car. Guess we were having a lovers spat.
Selling it isn't much of an option even if I wanted to with a reconstructed title. If the time comes it will have to go cheap or get parted.
My main reason for the post was to correct my previous posts stating a bad ground was my issue. I should have left it at that. Sorry.
Anyway, I'm off to enjoy a long, and hopefully trouble free, weekend with the car. Cheers...
