The 305 designation is the tread width (in mm) and the 30/35 numbers are the height of the sidewall, as a percentage of the tread width.
305 mm x .35 = 4.2" (106.75 mm) x 2 + 18" = 26.4"
305 mm x .30 = 3.6" (91.5 mm) x 2 + 18" = 25.2"
So, a 305/35 tire would be taller than a 305/30 tire.

with a Z, the 295/35s are already kinda short in the wheel wells, and going to a 305/30 will be even smaller. a 305/35-18 is roughly the same height as the base 275/40-18, which i think is a much better fit... but that size is pretty much only made in an R compound. that said, it will work fine with your stock front, but a 275/40-17 front would match the 305 the best
