Here is a post by forum member Opel on the differences between the two windshields:
I work for a company that makes windshields both HUD and non HUD. The difference is the vinyl that's used between the glass. You will get less distortion with the HUD vinyl but It's so little difference I can not see paying double for the HUD windshield. Get the non HUD and you will be happy with it.
There have been many posts on this topic here on the forum and from reading those, a lot of owners have opted for the non-HUD specific windshield (a major cost savings) and have no complaints of the clarity of the HUD readout.
There was a thread about this not too long ago. The consensus seemed to be that the HUD has a certain type of glare reducer to make the HUD seem "brighter", but the difference is so minimal that the extra cost isn't worth it. If you do a search you might be able to pull up the other thread, it can't be more than a week old.
Without the HUD glass, you have a higher possibility of seeing 2 to 3 of the same projected image on the windshield. Most people don't notice, some get lucky and get a good piece of glass. There are a couple of people here that have posted pictures and there is no way I could live with it.
