Default Pics of first attemp at brackets...pics!

Bought some 1.5" by 1/16" aluminum stock. 1/8" too thick. See pics and comments below....

Heating the aluminum with a torch in prep for bending...

Heated then bent over, flatened with a hammer wrapped in a towel. Couldn't find my plastic mallet...

Laying out the lines, using old bracket. Made the slot just a tad wider than original bracket. Old bracket just a tad too tight to slide on mounting screws...

Drilling holes for jig saw. This is where I messed up. The hole closer to the bend should of been closer to the bend, will see later...

This is where you can see after I made cuts with jig saw, that I had to drill a third hole a little closer to the bend, and cut is not staright...

Marking bracket using old HU...

Drilled holes, corners rounded....

Some tools I used...

I don't have a fancy work shop, no water jets! This was the first one, I still have 7 more feet of aluminum stock to play with, and get better! Break time!!

Default Right side bracket...

Made this one in about 10 minutes, (no wisea$$ comments...lol). First one took longer as I figured out what I was doing. Like this one better.

Slot goes closer to end. Allows further in/out motion...

Brushed finish...lol

mounts look great Greg
However you wont be able to use them
Mounting to the stock locations will cause the radio to set out to far and will not allow bezel to set flush with dash
so
you might have to remake them
This is why we do not make a mount to have them set onto the factory mounting block

Dennis knows his stuff. Following his instruction made the installation flawless.

Hmmmm....

I may call you next week. I'll redo the brackets to mount not using the factory mounting locations. I was thinking the same thing you mentioned when I was making the first set of brackets. But I thought if I made the slots long enough, I could slide the HU far enough back. At least this project is a stress reliever. Working on the Vett and HD relaxes me so much!
