I would rather take an azz whipping from someone than for them to do something to my car.

There are plenty of examples of those that once they get on this track of thinking they are freely entitled to whatever they want, it is difficult for them to knuckle down to an attitude of working / earning it instead. Trying to help can be frustrating - some times when you help someone in trouble, they'll only remember you when they are in trouble again.

I don't have a problem working. In fact, I want to work. I even have a college degree.

I only ask that I am paid a wage that will allow me to live independently.

I am a federal employee. Correction: I used to be a federal employee.

The problem is that my employer places new employees on a part-time status. I will even overlook the fact that they paid me under $15 an hour. But, if you pay your employees less than $15 and limit them to 25hrs a week, you are not helping them to become independent.

My last paycheck was under $600. Nobody can be independent and fully support themselves if they make less than $2000 a month.

To make matters worse, my employer provides employee parking for $50 a month. I tried to avoid this expense and had my car towed. It cost me $430 to retrieve my car.

My employer wanted me to write a statement explaining why my car was towed. Feeling that the statement was unnecessary and would have been used to justifying a dismissal, I resigned.

If I wasn't poor, I would have paid $50 for parking.

Not everything is black in white. Let's not turn this into an argument about the poor, lower/underclass, or less fortunate.

We should be trying to bring people up, not keep them down.

I commend you for wanting to work and for earning a college degree.

As long as you are working, you are not living independently.

Its not your employers responsibility to help you do so either.

Very true that everything is not black and white, in fact I would say most of what exists, exists in gray.

However fortunate or unfortunate someone may be, in most cases there are choices to be made. In no way should this type of behavior be tolerated, so Im with Killain on this. Trying to bring ppl up is commendable, but you're doing no good if your attempt fails and you're just brought down as well.
You cannot help some1 that does not truly want to be helped.

Haters abound these days more than ever. If something were to happen at the house you'd set up a video. Maybe look into that? Useful on the road as well.

Glad it turned out OK

Good idea!

Unfortunately, we live in times when wealth, or displays of wealth, are not necessarily things people aspire to achieve, but rather they serve as displays of disparity in a country that is quickly becoming more divided.

Like it or not, to most people, Corvettes are considered luxery, non-essential items and when you park your sparkling, well-maintained 10-year old C5 in a parking lot, it still looks like a $50K car (toy)! The car will draw admirers as well as those who can only feel better by damaging your property. Unfortunately, these people have the mentality to justify if they can't own one, it's OK to damage one! It doesn't matter what % you are (Funny, however I never considered wealth percentages until the last four years), your Corvette screams 1%.

Sometimes, the vandals aren't punk kids, or jealous wannabes, but rather people you would least expect to damage your property as demonstrated by this video...

Education is great and opens doors to many options. However, my graduate degree and management salary did not save my butt when the Fortune 100 company I was working for had to downsize in 2008 in order to maintain profits and shareholder value. They knew they could hire 4 college grads to eventually replace me and I knew it too. Experience is great, however the salary carries with it a red bulls eye in hard times.

Use your education and work experience to advance your life and never, ever expect the government or any company to take care of you. Hopefully, you help some other people along the way as well!

Peace!

Speaking of azzes, I just finished spending 6 hours seal coating my driveway Thursday, and someone threw 2 eggs on it last night. They splattered clear across the driveway. I just finished a half hour cleaning up the mess.

I feel your pain. I have a paver driveway and last fall I spent a full day pressure cleaning and then applying the sealer coat. I then placed the two 5-gallon drums on each side of the driveway/sidewalk with signs "Sealer Drying" taped to them. The sidewalk stops on each side of the driveway which covers the entire area between the street and my garage.

While the sealer was drying, I watched a woman who lives down the street walking her dog with her son riding his bicycle stop, move the one barrel, and then walk over the driveway. WTF is with people? Is it too much to ask that I slightly inconvenienced them one part of one day out of the last 5 years to walk around the barrels?!

People think I'm rich because I own two Corvettes. I try to explain to them that my 98 and 02 values are less than their new SUV. Heck, I actually got in an arguement with a guy because he would absolutely not believe my blue Corvette was 10 years old. It's just I don't have allot of $ so I take care of what I do have.

As both were writhing in pain, he called the cops and had them arrested. I don't think they tried stealing his stereo, ever again.
In most states, your coworker would get a longer jail sentence than the thieves.
Personnally, I'd pat your coworker on the back and say "good job"

Most LEO here have seen the same crap five days a week, that class of fail to accomplish somethings on every shift. you can't change the course of failed evolution, you can lead, but they have no interest in the journey. They take what they can, and if it won't move or they can't steal it they just destroy it. Sad, but it's life.
I know what you mean, I come from a poor background and worked hard and finally able to enjoy a few things such as a vette. My older brother who never cared for anyone but himself had a stroke three months ago and I visit him in the nursing home evry other Saturday (I work during the week and its about 150 miles one way). He has 5 kids, so far only two of them have visited and no else in the family has been to see him,He has 6 family members within 10 miles from him. Anyway its getting old for me, he was never there for me. I spent 23 years in the Navy while on long deployments I asked him to take my son fishing or camping cause I am not there, not once did he do anything with him. I really have no love for him, but feel I still must go see him every other weekend!! Sorry to run on, love my vette and this forum!!!!

Just had to vent.
That sucks...some people suck.
At least the massage had a 'happy ending'.

I have been in the Marine Corps for 20 plus years and have worked my way from Private on up and over the years have sacrificed my family, my life, and do so at my choice. So last year when I finally got my dream car 01 Vert I neither feel guilty nor am rich by any means. When people compliment me on my 12 year old car I just nod my head and thank them. I bought the car for me and not anyone else and find it a great outlet for having fun and enjoy every minute of it. With that said, I would protect my car just as I would anything else

You drive your vette to go get a massage? I'm sorry but that's funny, I don't know why!

But to your point, people have lost respect. It's the entitlement attitude of people. Instead of admiring it and declaring one day I will have one, they start trashing those who do.

anyone who doesn't believe this look around you at what's going on in this country!!
