C5 pros over C6?
granted a LOT of guys build c6's but the c5 does seem to get more hobbyist mods and general repair advice
example: c5 guys troubleshoots and fixes his column lock, c6 guy asks what dealer to go to fix the same on his 05
Also i have a good friend that has a base 09 c6. Ive driven it several times. To me, my c5 has more leg and headroom, (Im 6'3) And i cant see any difference in the quality or comfort of the c6 seats over my c5's. Interior quality was and still is the only complaint by many on the c5-c6 corvettes. I also like the better feel and engaement of my stock clutch with 49k to his stock clutch with 20k.

I'll keep my 03Z until the wheels fall off!
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I agree with others about the C5 electronics which are simpler. I've not spent much time in the C6 forum to see how bad all the gizmos are, but imo, these cars are pretty low on the quality scale where electronics go. And a car with that much electronics, could be a pita. I saw one thread where a guys wife was stuck in the car cause the electronic door latches won't open after a minute or so (post lock). Some may consider having the wife locked in the car is a good thing, but you get the idea. This wasn't on a car with an electrical issue either. Lock the car, get out, and a minute later, the inside door release no longer functions. That sort of thing would get me down after a while. Maybe not this exact issue, but others which are thought out with similar logic.
I do like the looks of the C6 much better though. Just not the look of the sticker.
PS, GM is again running 0% for 60 Months on the 2012/2013's.
I think that's why I like to drive the C5 more. With 1 exception. The C5 sucks on a long trip. I drove mine to Spokane once about 300 miles. Never again. The C6 would be OK though. But my truck or Michelle's Malibu would be more comfy for that. As much as I like the pop up head lights I can tell there is a slight drop in MPG with them up. So I can see why they went away. But it's the thing I like the least about my C6. That and that stupid black plastic piece around the exhaust. It looks like they misjudged the cut out size and said here put this there. I have both and think the C5 looks better.

there are all different types of enthusiasts here. some wrench their own, some dont. c5-c6-c7, doesnt really matter.
I went from a c5 to a c6. my finances dont play a part in what Ill put a wrench to and what i wont
and for the record Im like you-meaning i will and have modded cars under warranty, further proving its silly to say guys are that different simply due to owning a different generation of the same car..

Guess what people - more people probably turn their own wrenches on Fbodies than C5s......go buy one of them!
I can't believe people would even take that into consideration. There is an immense aftermarket and customization for both cars. Some people wrench on there cars (I like to), some people don't - why does it even matter to you?
I stand by my rankings on the C5s vs C6s.
My budget was ~25k and that is why I got a C5Z. If I would have had 45k to spend comfortably - I would have chosen a C6Z.
Some of the things said in this thread are so ignorant.
Get what you like best and what will suit your personal situation best. If you just want a stock cruiser and have the money to blow, get an LS3 C6.....

, not at all..
we're on a forum and im simply asking how u came up with this. the guy with the silly lurking comment wants to pick fights since he wants to choose sides....
, instead of engaging with something valuable to say...If you're soley going by forum activity, I wont argue as I dont follow it closely enough to make the call of "wrenching" between c5-6 owners. But forum members is a very small part of the entire vette community.
I ride with quite a few guys often (most c6 owners) and Im actually the lightest on the wrenching side (I openly admit my mech skills are quite limited) so Im just trying to gauge how you're coming up with this. again, the C6 has almost been in existence for a decade. considering that and how many are "out of warranty" and have been bought 2nd/3rd/4th hand by now. its kind of silly, no? Now think of how many 6 owners are prior 5 owners.
if you decided to purchase a c6, would it change the type of enthusiast you are...?
The C5 has better looks imo. The pop up lights add an old school taste to the whole package. Although less refined, especially inside, you can't beat the value and the aftermarket parts are endless.
I guess I was more willing to supercharge a 14K car than a 30K car. I felt like it would hurt resale value on the new car more, but who really cares about what I would or wouldnt modify or how many C6 owners are rich.
Im always glad to see a Corvette rolling around. I look at C4's as much as C6's when they roll up in traffic.
I do dig the pop up headlights in a way, even though less refined and aerodynamic.
I cant understand the posts about there not being much of a price difference. My C5 is a lot more car for the money but the C6 was a little more car over all.
Also, when I said my C6 z51 was quite a bit faster, that may not have been a good description. I should say that my C6 was noticibly faster, but again my C5 has weak 2.73 gearing. So the comparison is not quite fair and honestly my C5 was pretty darn quick when it was stock! I wasn't the least bit disappointed when I drove it. Im looking forward to a 3.42 gear!
I dont think the OP said, will you likely modify the corvette? Also how much are you going to drive it? I probably average 20 miles on my car a week.
My C6 was bone stock, btw. The tire price difference, like I and another poster said, is significant. If looking at C6's, I would always look at tire wear and consider that in the price. You can spend more than you think on those tires! Staggered wheels and high torque can help you go through soft tires pretty fast, so I really am glad for cheaper tire prices. I think C5z tires cost a little more too.
Heck buy something!! Here's your best answer and maybe we can all agree here....... You'll like either one
