Do any of you have a monetary line that you draw when it comes to repairing and fixing things?
I did a lot by shoping and being patient. I scored a brand new drivers window on ebay for 100 bucks....still in the GM packaging. Set of absolutely like new OE seat covers from here for $275.
But I agree that some cosmetic or non essential things can wait. My vert top is showing some wear but that won't be cheap no matter how you slice it. And no one notices when it's down. I discovered an alternate source for the TPMS but would have to pay to have them installed. So I too live with some things.

Including tools and equipment you can do a vert top for under $600. Might be able to do $500 if you already have the tools. I just finished mine and I'm very happy with it. Had never done one before, there's nothing to it. With your experience, it would be like changing your shirt.

$500-600 isn't THAT bad, but it's just one of those things that adds up when you include other small repairs.
I'm sure I'll eventually replace the top when it REALLY needs it (I can count on both hands how many times I've driven with the top up anyway).
It's one of the compromises I made for getting the car for as cheap as I did, knowing it had a few little things that needed to be fixed.
Center air dam needs a new spring
driver side door panel has a tear in the elbow area
amp for my sub is not working
footwell interior lights do not come on
Who has lots of things that need attention on their C5? Maybe you didn't have time, money or just don't care, but these things just haven't been fixed yet.
My list is as follows:
Left front tpms doesn't work.
A/c clutch makes noise when not engaged.
Active handling, ABS, traction control codes on.
Left turn signal won't self cancel.
Inside right brake light won't come on.(It's not the bulb)
CC won't work with lights on half the time.
CC cancels when turn signals activated.
Wipers won't hide or won't shut off and come on by themselves.
Oil pressure gauge reads max when running. Normal pressure when engine is off.
Some seat controls don't work.
Left front tire plugged.(by me. tire store won't repair)
My list on things I look for...in addition to yours...
Differential leak
HB wobble
Sticking clutch, need for clutch fluid change
Acid under battery affecting PCM
Fuel gauge issues/Fuel syrup
Fuel crossover leak on 04 & some 03's
CLB done?
Window regulators
Valve spring issue
GY stocks still on car
Shifting issues
There's lots more on issues if your looking for trouble .
See Sticky on top in the TECH forum
That might turn into a cleaning issue down the road. I'd prefer to take the door panel off and just stick the stuff inside the window tracks. But, now that you mention it, sticking it on the edges of the window might also eliminate unwanted drag. Those windows might work better than new with that grease all over!
Might even pick up an effective 10whp increase by greasing the windshield while you're at it!
I will give it a try.....the grease on the side windows, of course.
LOL!!!

I was able to get all of this except:
torque tube bearings
torque tube bushings
differential
trans mounts
for 1675 after tax, not installing myself. The bushings and bearings and mounts should be pretty easy to include in since I believe that they are taking all of that stuff off anyway. Does the differential cost that much?
It should also be noted that I put an ls7 clutch kit in. Not just the stock one. But good luck to you bud. It sucks not being able to drive it.

well i drive it around the block every now and then just to keep the seals fresh. new diff is 1200 bucks. i'll actually be doing an ls6 clutch. the tt bushings and bearings are very expensive also. also forgot to mention that ill be installing an aluminum flywheel. i did this analysis over a year ago, so maybe prices have dropped since then. my problem is that i refuse to replace anything with nothing but the best available components.
