and i just bought my hd2 like a few months back now. lol i'm going to have to see if i can sell my old one to upgrade to this one now. i've been wanting the wifi. that alone is worth the purchase for a new one
i bought the hero 2 ...and its pretty amazing cam..yes its hard to get used to the buttons on the cam..and i would highly recommend getting the LCD screen so you point the cam and get much better shots...i have mostly recorded autocross events..and with the suction cup mount it has stayed where i have put it so far..i love my gopro
I have the GoPro 2 w/the LCD bacpac and primarily use it for track events. great vids, easy transfer to PC. The butonst get more confusing when you mount the camera up-side-down on inside of windshield - also you can't reach the record button after you're strapped in. I've just got the WiFi pac for the remote capability, it comes with a LCD that mirrors the camera LCD - seems to work great.
I'm really excited about the hero3 black. the fact that you can get 120 fps at 720 p and 60 fps at 1080 p is going to make slowmotion shots of flying in and out of weather look all that more awesome!.
I am however curious on how well the Iphone ap is going to work with the unit.
if the "viewfinder" is real time, no lag then I'll be super happy! but if there is a 5 second lag..then I'm not going to be happy :/.
I have a gopro hd and just did my first vette track day a couple weeks ago. I didnt even upload the videos cause the $20 telemetry app(harrys lap timer) on my free to me(work pays for it) iphone was better and much more useful.
I got the gopro a couple years ago when they were new and it served its purpose, but if they will let you run a phone mount inside your car at the track days you run. You can get telemetry apps for android or ios that will over lay on video. Even though it isn't legit telemetry as the sensors are all somewhat slow, there is much more useful info there. My iphone is a 4s and records video at 1080p and looks pretty darn good. More than good enough to see lines and plates of people way out ahead of me. I didn't even upload the highest quality video cause its big. I used windows movie maker and cut it down to about 1/10th the raw size. But here is a link for what i got from a $50 tomtom gps mount(to get slightly better gps location) and a $20 app.
Keep in mind for track days there are better ways to do things imo than a go pro. Mind you I am considering getting a 3, as it will allow you to view the display over wireless so you can see where it is pointing, which would be terribly useful as you can see from my friends video that is at a terrible angle and was done with a gopro hd 2 but is downgraged quality as well.
