Default HUD Install

I have had my 99 FRC for 4 1/2 years and have always wanted HUD.
Thanks to all the info on CF I decided to take it on.
My parts showed on Tuesday and yesterday I decide to do it before I store the car for the dreaded winter.
Swapped in a diff cluster (Z06 with only 400 mile difference) and dash pad as mine had some glue residue left over from removing a wood grain sick on kit that the previous owner applied.
The swap took apox 5 hour taking my time. I would highly would recommend this to any one that is on the fence. Not really that hard if you follow the detailed instructions in the DIY sticky in the Tech section.

If any one is interested I now have a spare HUD ready cluster w/47,800 miles.

Thanks for starting the thread as I've been wanting HUD on my 98 because I love the HUD in my 02. Did you have to put in a different windshield?

You didn't need to replace the whole dash pad, there are templates available to cut your existing dash, just an FYI for those thinking of doing this.

My dash pad had some glue residue left over from removing a wood grain sick on kit that the previous owner applied and no matter what I tried it would not come off..so I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone.

FWIW,,, early '99 and before Corvettes may not have the correct connector on the dash for HUD.

Very nice write-up. I've had the HUD on all three of my C5s and would not have it any other way. It's a great option to have - wish a lot of other cars had it on them.

Definately on my 'to-do' list. Maybe I'll do it at the same time with a double din swap!

If you need a hand, give me a shout. I added it to my 98 about 6 months ago, very straight forward project.

I feel that I lost mine (kahoona's) just looking at some of those pictures! I would be scared that I would not be able to get it back together again.

Great post. How does the HUD look with the non HUD windshield? I found a place that sells the whole kit including the dash pad for $400.00. I'm going to pick up the kit and install this weekend. I just sold my 75' convertible 4 speed after owning it for 15 years. I've wanted a C5 since they came out so I bought a 2001. I Really like this car and don't miss my 75' yet but I wanted the HUD option so....
