A guy at the gym was telling me he has been looking at a few C5's. Then he asked if the mileage could be changed, and how to tell if it had been messed with. I told him I wasn't sure but I knew a few people that would know.
I think I read here that there is a scanner or something that gives the real mileage? Wouldn't it be more time and hassle to change the mileage readout on a C5 then it would be worth? I know in the old days used car salesmen would just get up under the dash.
Changing the dash 'head' unit to lower mileage would do it, however as you would expect, that is illegal; Dealers with a tech 2 might be able to do it too. However it isn't as easy as the old days.
I know a few people that have owned (Non-corvettes) since new. They ran their vin thru carfax just for sh*ts and giggles, at sometime someone with fat fingers punched in the mileage so now it shows the mileage is "Wrong".
I would think a new head would cost more then its worth just to take some miles off. I guess there are people that will do anything for a buck.
