Last night I was sitting in my recliner, and was thinking about how much I enjoy my C5, made up my mind, then and there, that if I ever win the lottery, the first thing I would do is set up burial arrangements, to be buried in my C5. (Sorry about the run-on) An urn sitting in the driver's seat.
When I read the title of this thread, I thought someone had thought of the same.
Enjoy the Island.

Thank you all for the kind words! We are finally getting settled in and have unpacked most of the boxes. The wife talked me into wearing a Hawaiian shirt when we got here and it's growing on me, however I have a raft of Corvette Tshirts that I refused to get rid of and wear around the house.
We picked the Big Island of Hawaii because we felt it was the least touristy, had the most affordable home prices, very highly rated health care, and has the most miles of paved road 1407 miles according to the brochures in Hilo, even more than Oahu. The ocean side twisting drive to Captain Cook reminds me of California and the Big Sur drive. Also my wife is a retired geology professor and has always been fascinated by the volcano trails here.
There are lots of horse ranches in Waiimea and it has a country feeling to it and in 10 minutes you can be at the beach. We've seen two other Corvettes since we've been here a red C4 and a yellow C6. I'm starting to have Corvette withdrawal and looking forward to the cars getting here - the rented Toyota Camry is OK but nothing to write home about. For those that are curious, gas prices run around $4.29 a gallon for regular since we've been here. Aloha
Congrats. The big island has some great roads and a lot more of them than Kaua'i, where I own a condo. The wife wants to move there permanently but I need more roads for the C5 and HD's. You're going to enjoy a great retirement!
Congrats on the move and acquisition of the house and GARAGE in Waimea. I am borne and raised on Oahu, but went to the Big Island many times for work. I think you chose a great place to reside and retire...between Kona (too dry) and Hilo (too wet). You'll be at a higher elevation closer to Kona though, so be drier and cooler. Best of all you are at one end of the Kohala Mountain Road which has got to be one of the most heavenly drives ever, feeling on top of the world, similar to driving up Haleakala on Maui. Wow, enjoy living and driving your Vettes there. I last lived in Mililani Mauka 1999-2005 for my job. Couldn't afford to buy back the place I sold, but wouldn't want to since Honolulu traffic and continuous congestion makes it very distasteful anymore. Other than that though, REAL Hawaii folks are most kind and extremely giving, so learn and live the Aloha spirit! Let's see pics and hear about your driving experiences in the future! Aloha, Jon
