VIN check

Is there a website/place to check a VIN# without paying $40? I would not mind paying a couple bucks, I am not that cheap, but $40 bucks for one report? Ouch.

Any decent dealership should gladly run your VIN for outstanding recalls or product updates or a possible branded title. They may or may not ask you to show up with the vehicle and/or registration.
