Thank God for reality checks Unless your buying a second vette.
A second Corvette would be great, but that would mean I have to sell either the C5 or the `56 Chevy. I'm not ready to do that..... yet.
My wife & I have been kicking around the idea of buying a C6 convertible because we want to go on the National Corvette Caravan in 2014. Originally my thinking was I don't want to put that many miles on the 2000. Then in a moment of clarity I thought, "What does it matter?" It is almost 13 years old and only has 53K miles. I still prefer the looks of the C5 over the C6, they built them to be driven and what's another couple of rock-chips?
Maybe in a couple more years I will find a C6 GS convertible at a decent price, but right now I still love the 2000.

She's a beauty.
I will never sell my current C5. She belonged to an owner who is a really good friend of mine, and was my first ride in a high horsepower car(I call high horsepower, anything over 500). I never dreamed in a million years, he would ever sell her to me. Last year he did. I have my dream car, hands down.
Even the C7 ZR1 isn't going to pull my heart away from my baby.
If all U guys have held out this long I guess you're good to go for another generational skip. But time will take it's toll. As for C1/C2 that buying market is growing smaller by the day. Love to have another SWC (my fav) but that's not practical anymore.
I had a couple of 50th (Z & a AE Vert) and I'm not adverse to another one or even working a trade w/another C5Z. I also had a loaded 07 and now a brand new 12 (along w/my 90 M6 DD). The 12 is just the Base coupe with A6 but will blow the doors off any stock C5Z WOT. And smooth as silk with upgrade interior and all the stuff I need. No regrets and no need to get a C6Z like most hold-outs here. Before you go guys explore C6Z's for real be sure to read the C6Z forum.
I think me selling my 99 C5 for a C7 would, in years to come, be looked upon like the owner of a 67 big block selling it to buy an 84 C4, back in the day. A decision to be regretted forever.....
Does this happen to anyone else? With the intro of the C7 right around the corner and the anticipated price drop in the C6's, you start thinking of a newer model, but you don't know why. The hype starts to get in your head and your eyes begin to gloss over.
Tonight, in full glossy eyes mode, I was strapping on my shoes in the garage for the evening run and I looked over at my C5. Suddenly my eyes returned to normal and I said, Dam, that is one beautiful car. WTF was I thinking? We own one hell of a car. Ah?
For some reason ( forum dealer discounts) I keep thinking it's do or die. I have to buy a 427 convertible now since they won't be making them anymore. I've become pretty attached to my modded c5z06 though.
That would be an indication of higher intelligence; for one managed to weigh the pros and cons of the situation rather than acting out of sheer materialism. With that said you will have to pry my C5 out of my cold dead hands.
That's because your C5 is wicked hawt! I think there should be forum rule wherein you are required to post a pic every time you comment fella!
I love my C5Z...but it's definitely not the best car of all, lol!
Best car for the money, well that is a much better argument!
You know what I meant... all things considered best car... or best car for an individual's taste... or best looking car... of course there are lots of things that the newer cars do much better... that wasn't my point at all.

I have subscribed to the school of thought that the cars made after the muscle car era will never be like the cars of the glory years of US Auto. But that said, I understand what you mean about the C5 vs the potential of the C7. The C5 I think is for sure one of the top 3 of the 6 generations of vettes thus far. Of course I love them all and would own any and all of them but my personal ranking:
C2 - timeless and smooth
C3/C5 - nearly a dead heat but time will settle the tie and we shall see
C1 - out of respect to the one that got it all started
C6 - bad *** evil
C4 - a super sweet C4 opens eyes over many nice cars that I rank above it - just not many of them around in that condition... some think C4 values could still really rise for this reason.
One of these days I hope to have a C6 as a DD. But I also hope my FRC lasts at least as long as I do because IMO, only a fool would get rid of an FRC or a C5 Z06. Truly special cars IMO. (which doesn't mean a whole lot)
I saved up my S/S checks for 3 years to maybe buy a new vette but then realized that i really don't think they are as nice as my C-5 looks wise! So what I did is buy the car I really have been wanting for several years now and will keep my ole C-5.
I am now the proud owner of what I consider one oy the best looking cars ever built, A "55" Chevy 2 door 210 with a "327' 4 speed!
i can't seem to stay out of the garage now and am having a ball working on and restoring this car! I've got the best of both worlds now!
P.S. I was going to build another highboy coupe but i think this "ole" "55" is the right choice now for me. It is just like the one my wife of 39 years and i dated in.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
