$7100 for a replacement motor and all the labor to do it is high? What do you think is a better motor plus removal and install price?

Removal and install should be around $1000

So how I see it... if the guy is quoting you $7000 for everything then you have $6000 to spend on another engine. For $6K you can build a stout 383 out of your block. Find a reputable engine builder in your area or shop around on this website.

This, or get a block from a vendor and what parts you need, you can get an LS6 block from texas speed for 1000$ and to swap most of your old parts over shouldn't be that expensive
