Though not really applicable to the C5 generation anymore, I thought I'd post about my recent experience in filing a GM Protection Plan warranty claim.
I have a C5 Z06 that sees a bit of track duty, and I noticed a crack on one of my stock OEM 17 inch rims. I have two sets of wheels, so I put a couple of 18 inch rims on the front and took the vehicle to the dealer to file a warranty claim.
The claim was immediately denied and the reason given was that wheels aren't covered because they are "cosmetic". I pointed out that wheels are structural, so the adjuster came down to look at the car. The claim was still denied because the car had "oversized" tires and that the agreement does not cover a claim caused by "misuse, abuse, negligence, alterations, or modifications made to the vehicle" or caused by "racing or other competition".
I suppose the adjuster looked at the 18 inch wheels that I put on the front and considered that to be an "oversized" modification. I have aftermarket tow hooks on the front and back of the car, so this may have activated the "racing or other competition" or "modification" clause.
Is there any recourse for situations like this? They are clearly trying to avoid covering wheel claims.

If you really want to fight this, I believe there is an arbitration clause in the warranty agreement. You can always appeal the decision and see what happens.
Guess I have an attitude on insurance companies. ie... The majority of homes, lost in hurricane Sandy were not covered. They didn't have flood insurance.
Insurance contracts are written with many caveats to benefit the insurance companies.

The '04 model year C5 might still have a GMPP. There is actually a MY f/s on the forum now with coverage in effect until 2014.

Reason: Reconsidered my position after re reading the thread.
OMG..... I say that cause this is over a part that is not very costly to replace. As a matter of consideration think about how much money was spent on everyones time to reach the conclusion, that this was used in a competetive event and therefore isn't covered, due to the abuse given the car.
I will step out of the box and say "Why does the OP want to push this off on GM?" Will that couple of hundred bucks break the bank?
I view this as trying to pull one over on those people. Yes it's a tuff break! I know racing breaks stuff, but quit trying to make someone else pay for it.
I say this cause I've spent many times at the dragstrip, and KNEW if I broke it, I PAID FOR IT! No way would I ever blame the manufacturer for it!

Also depends a lot on the Service Manager at the Dealership you go to. My local Dealership stepped up time and again to get things covered that were not even included and got them through. GMPP covered over $16,000 of repairs on my car without any hassle (including a new engine).
However, if I raced the car, I would not even try.
You said it yourself, you track the car, you've modified the car. You own the repair. Had your vehicle been stock I believe they would have covered the repair. Just my 2 cents.
Why would you expect GM to cover an 18" front rim when the car came with a 17?
He put the 18" on the front AFTER he found the crack in the OEM, stock, the original wheel, factory applied rolling apparatus. The claim was for the factory 17". The OP put the 18 on front for safety.
