I've read lots of threads about people making the switch from their short throw shifter to a c6 shifter. Most people seem to be content with the change. I'm actually thinking about doing the same. My Hurst shifter even after the anti venom mod seems kinda notchy (getting into first gear and reverse) but i like the short throws. The c6 shifter feels smooth and you never question whether or not the car is in gear. Either i switch over to a c6 shifter and sacrifice the shorter throws for a smoother shift. Or i keep my Hurst and add a c6 shift **** to make the grip a little less awkward.

I did the swap as well - from a BPP short shifter to a C6 Z06 shifter that already had its shaft threaded for my own 9/16-18 shifter ****. I highly recommend the C6 Z06 shifter - MUCH easier side-to-side movement and while the shifts aren't as short, they are definitely shorter than the stock shifter.
I had the Hurst in my 2001 vert when I bought it earlier this year. It was a little too stiff going into 5th so I bought an RSD Snapshifter (I believe it is a shortened C6 shifter with an angled shaft). I liked the way it shifted but it was angled too far back for me. I tried to sell it it but couldn't so the other day I cut into the shaft, straightened it almost straight and tig welded the cut. I installed it and it is absolutely perfect! If you can find a shortened C6 shifter go for it!
By the way I would love to try an MGW but it's hard for me to imagine a better shifter than what I have now.
I went from a C6 shifter to a MGW and won't go back. Didn't do the anti venom mod either as it feels great how it is. I also have a custom MGW in my 04 GTO as well. All their shifters look like art work. Great company.
Stock C5 shifter with Hurst Ball ( which looks almost identical to a C6 except the angle shaft ) vs new MGW unit with C6 ****

C6 for sale section. You'll see them posted regularly, or you can do a WTB (want to buy) post. I think I paid right around $100 for the shifter and ****.
Virtually everyone who installs an aftermarket shifter end up installing one, two, three or more others.
Their money would be better spent taking shifting lessons.
"Shifting lessons"? Fool. More needless banter from Mr. Keepyourcorvettestock.
To the original thread poster, Maxx_Z06, my car is equipped with a B&M Ripper shifter. I installed a C6 shifter, but I didn't feel it was that much of an improvement over the original C5 model. It still felt vague with fairly long throws. I reinstalled the B&M, added the anti-venom washer, and haven't looked back. I understand the MGW offers just as short and precise throws as the B&M, so I would pass on the C6. Get the MGW.
my car 03z had the sloppy stock shifter with the hurst 8 ball ****...i hated it..i went with an 08 c6 z06 shifter with a 2012 centennial edition c6 z06 **** with red stitching to match my red shift boot..and i love the change..feels great imo
So whats the difference in the C5 and C6 shift ***** looking at MGWs web site the C5 threads on and the C6 looks like a press on? is that correct? if so how well does it stay in place? sorry about all the questions just trying to make an informed choice.

The C6 **** has a lock screw at it's base that screws in the shifter. I also think the C6 shifter **** itself is a big part of the improvement in going to a C6 shifter. It fits my hand WAY better than the C5 shifter, and makes shifting much more pleasant. If you're going to do an aftermarket shifter instead of the C6 unit, I'd still HIGHLY recommend getting one for a C6 and finding a C6 **** to put on it.
My $0.02. I feel everybody raves about it just caused the guy before them did, and cause they spent $275 on it. Or maybe they've just never felt a good shifter. The MGW F-body shifter, and the custom GTO one are both great, but I feel the 'vette version sucks, maybe due to the rear mounted tranny design.

My story almost sames yours....
1st, shortened the C5 shifter by 3/4"
2nd, installed B&M Ripper and retained stock gromets, washers etc, to prevent rattles, notchy, etc.
3rd, installed C6
4th, reinstalled Ripper...best of all IMHO
Good luck with the shifter mods, so much a matter of personal taste.
Well this weekend I drove my car, a buddies c5z with a mgw, and a c6. C6 is like stated above is just a little impoved over the c5 stock. My car with the hurst has avery short throws but 1st and reverse are kind of notchy. The mgw shifter was a tad bit longer than the hurst but was less notchy and very smooth still. I'm going to look into getting one of the mgw for the c6 ****, this was best for my taste
