Default Muffler Swap?

Has anyone ever swapped just mufflers?

I currently have a Borla Stinger quad tip exhaust.

I'm considering swapping just the mufflers out.
I'm thinking of swapping in the Borla XR1 bullet style muffler.
Or.. The SLP loud mouth bullet resonator.

Of course this will be a cut & weld job.

Just wondering if anyone here has done it.

Looking for a bit less of a muffled sound lol

Here is what it sounds like now.

Default Replaced the SS ends with new chrome ones on new mufflers

My 98 had the SS ends which were factory then. My dealer who sold me the car had brand new take-offs from people who changed mufflers on a brand new vette. He gave me the new mufflers from a 2000 or so vette and I paid for the labor to remove old ones and replace with new.
Look fine and cost almost nothing.

Personally, I don't know why you'd want to mess with the Borla Stinger sound. Absolutely perfect in my opinion.

But, why not look at new sets instead. You're going to be able to sell your Borla for more money than you can buy some of the louder sets. Once you start hacking into the Borla, you've instantly depreciated it.

And of course you run into the dilemma of replacing several mufflers and paying for welding each time if you don't like the results.

With that all said, I don't think the SLP Loudmouth or Borla XR1 will fit in place of the cans in the vette catback setup. Never measured it, but from recollection, they are almost twice as long.

Have you thought about just adding a set of electric cutouts to the car - that way you can have a less muffled sound when you want it and still have the Borla Stingers when it would be nice to have a little quieter sound.
