Default OverHeating Problems

MY 98 C-5 tends to over heat when waitng in traffic or line to get a coffee. Temp runs right up to 220 plus. This is without the AC on summer or winter driving. Just had a total flush this summer @ 62K. My understanding (1) Fan shoulf work W/O A/C off, and 2 Fans should work with A/c on. Any idea @ what temps should the fans engage or disengage. I purchased this car in 02/12. I believe in preventtive mant., rather than waiting for the shoe to drop. I'm beginning to believe we are getting the shaft on some service jobs. Chevrolet dealers included. I do most of my repairs, but some times you need special equipment and tools. One person can afford only so much. If I trade in the wife, maybe I could buy more tools. Next week I woulf like service my fuel system. The fuel filter.

that is normal...does the car cool down once you get moving to say 200 or so? one thing you will want to do is pull your intake off and remove the cover that over your radiator and clean out all the stuff that rests inside there..you will be shocked

I was having issues like you. I tried cleaning between the radiators, flushing the coolant system, changing the water pump, changing the thermostat.....in the end, I had to replace the radiator. That fixed my problem. Good luck

As suggested clean out the radiator, it's easy and free. Did mine this summer, dropped 10 degrees. Did my friends A4 Vert 2 weeks ago. He was seeing 225-230 sitting at traffic lights. Now he's in the 190s. Lots of sand, leaves and newspaper shreds in there.

that is the big one clean out the radiator fins.

Chances are there is dirt, grass, sand and dead Micky Ds bags stuck up there.
