Default What commonly breaks with power?

Obviously parts break with abuse and power but wonder what are the common things that break? I'm moving from a 600whp mid 10 second Evo so this will be completely new to me. I plan on using the car for drag and street use. I've seen the tranny problems with hard shifting ( which I will be doing) and that makes sense but what other things? Rear end? Axles? Clutches ... Etc

01- early 02 watch the shift forks, all years out put shafts. Drag race consumeables of course like clutch, I've also read of pinion gears. most patrs are availabe for hard core drag racers from ECS and they are hardened. But I'm a roadcourse guy, ask over in the drag race section of this forum, good luck.

Diff output shafts. Of course, some think that these may be deliberately the weak link to save the diff...

RPM makes really nice upgraded trannys if you need one.

Your stock clutch will eventually go, there are some REALLY good twin-disc options out there.

Do the Tick master cylinder upgrade ASAP.

How much power will you be making?

600 rwhp? need different clutch, flywheel, transmission, diff and output shafts, different couplings to connect the drive shaft too

stock ones wont last very long at all.

Need a bigger radiator for the heat,

Better brakes to slow you down.

Stronger suspension to handle that HP.

Yes to radiator in any case, especially if road racing.

As to the rest of the stuff- depends on power level, how hard the car is run and cubic $$$.

Never had an Evo so hard to compare one to a Z06. I do know that

a) the Z06 is not hard to get into the 10's
b) the Z06 is a much better road race car than drag car
c) the Z06 will get more chicks than an Evo

Have Fun!

and a 5.7 LS6 at 600 rwhp, wont last long anyway.

Not to worry. The door handles usually hold up fine.

lol well the money thing is any car, if you think making a 4cyl awd car fast in the quarter mile is cheap then you guys would be in for a nice surprise lol. so yes, i realize the money statement.

clutches- well thats a given. considering my first clutch (exedy twin) was 1500 and my second (exedy triple) was around 2800...its a relief i only need a twin in these cars

the more i look up the more I'm starting to realize that the stock t56's are junk and don't really hold up to the power of a low 10 second car which is my goal on a 6 speed so I'm not sure as far as power goes what i would need

Killer motor-reasonable price. But with dry sump accessories, front end serpantine stuff, clutch, updated torque tube, TR6060 or equivalent, updated differential etc. (all to reliably handle 550 BHP/7500 RPM) it could easily be a $30,000 build IMHO.

Katech builds some of the best stuff and if you are really a part time racer, then that is probably reasonable price if you can get a few seasons out of it.
