Default Which cam c5z???

Millions of threads on cams....been looking at them. Just wanted some opinions. My C5Z has a Haltech Cold Air, Dynatech long tube headers and Dynatech X-pipe. Other than that-STOCK under the hood. I am pretty happy with the power for now, but id like a lil more kick. My goal is to have a good track car, not a 1/4mile monster. Id like a cam that i can leave my engine mostly stock-other than maybe changing the valve springs. My Corvette mechanic from when i used to live in San Jose, CA-who is very good...recommended the KATECH torquer. Does anyone have this cam? or can recommend something else? So far, my car is not tuned....once i install the cam, i will tune it. Hoping for an extra 30-50hp and ill call it a day. Car is a daily driver-although work is only about 3 miles away.

Its basically Z06 cam except LSa is 112 instead of 117 in your current one, will give you little kick for sure but how much power will give you......? may be 25-30, but BTW at 500 bucks i would consider a nice Cam package for another 100 bucks that includes cam, single beehive springs and pushrods.

tested and proven by many including me, you cant beat this off the shelf cam.

224/230 .581/.588, 114 LSA, comp cam #54-444-11, comp cam beehive springs and comp 7.4 pushrods....some gaskets, oil, balncer bolt...done.

This cam has excellent driveability and will pass emmissions too if need be.
Expect definete 40+ HP after tune from cam alone combined with headers and such....expect easy 70+ HP to wheel.

A tune alone will get you close to 30rwhp....no cam. Cam should get you another 20rwhp or so.

Sami,
first post...sounds like some good info! As a kid(16-22), i always had lil hondas, integra gsr's etc. did a bunch of engine swaps, etc-but never messed with internals. I saw a couple how to threads/posts on cams, and it sounds like hours, but easily do-able. I am going to look into this setup. Thanks!

thanks also longrod, def gonna tune it after, 30hp sounds good...70hp sounds better. for the money of a cam kit, to get an extra 30-50hp is def worth it.

I'd go with dual springs... Beehives suck for longevity,, Unless you want to change them out every 10k miles.

wooooh i had that cam in my car, expect bucking and surging at low rom, it sounds pissed off and a real turner at stop lights and shakes the car, bad *** sounding cam nonetheless.

Sami, you are correct. I would not recommend it in a dd. a lot of the bucking was tuned out. If my sub isn't shaking the car the cam is.

Don't rush into anything. Do lots of searches. LS1tech is a great site for looking at cam information. For a DD, you really want to focus on low-mid torque. Figure out how much lope you want in the idle. If you have a tuner in mind, talk to him. Good luck

The best cam I had when I still had an LS6 was 228/232 .588 .595 115 lsa. I made 421rwhp with headers and haltech cai. It had a nice lope and absolutely no low rpm surging or bucking

I have a similar cam and similar supporting mods. Great choice in a street-driven C5Z!

I am with Dave on this.... You should check out Arun's post regarding his cam packages... I am getting ready to pull the trigger on one of them for my Firehawk!

+1 I have the same exact cam in my dd Z06. Great street manners and dyno'd 429rwhp w/ LT's, CAI & a tune.

This cam is a excellent street choice. I would go one step further with this though while the heads were off by having the heads milled to increase the compression up from 10.5:1 to somewhere around 11:0-11.5:1. Depending on how much is milled you may have to lower the duration slightly on that cam.. for example going to a 224/228 .588 .590ish on 115 lsa. Stock cam runs a 117 lsa so anything around 115 lsa wont idle bad at all.

Don't need to remove the heads to get to the cam, but yeah, if he takes them off for some reason then he might as well get them milled and ported, too. But then he should also replace the lifters+trays, head gaskets, and head bolts, and he'll need bigger injectors to support the extra power. It's an expensive can of worms to open ...but one I hope to open some day.

I'm in agreement with the 228 choices but I don't know why you guys want 114 or 115 LSA. Bring that down to 112 LSA and it will sound and run better.
