There is a ton of great info on the forums about replacing it, after reviewing all the options i decided to cut a hole to access instead of removing the intake, i know there is a video of someone doing it without cutting or removing the intake but he must have alien small hands because even a small friend of mine couldnt get to it with his fingers.

If you decide to do the work yourself and need some information on the process (including a relocation of the sensor if you want to do that), PM me your e-mail address and I will send you a bunch of Word files.

Its a weak spot (one of the weak spots), of the C-5. Three ways to attack the problem. Move the intake forward, work between the cowl and the intake and last cut a hole. Take your pick. They all work.
Make sure, whichever method you choose, you purchase a brass unit.
Thanks guys for info I'll knock it out this weekend looks very easy, Brass sending unit Check!
I've gone through three and two were brass but I still believe that brass is the way to go. I installed a relocate kit.
Good luck, it's not a difficult task and hopefully you'll have better luck with brass than I.

You can in fact do it without removing the intake or cutting a hole. Mine went out 2 weeks after I bought my '98 and I did it this way. You'll need the right size (height) socket but it's do able and I'd say I have normal size hands. That said however, both of my middle knuckles were VERY skinned up afterward...

The LS intake is so easy to remove, I can't see messing up your hands for something that takes maybe 30 mins total.

All you have to do is line the inside of the socket with a piece of tape and the unit will not slide out.

It most likely is.
I haven't delved into mine that far yet though (I figure I'll pay the car off before I start to spend any real money modding the engine) and all I remember removing intakes on are 1st gen small blocks, with coolant going everywhere (including into the oil pan) if you didn't have a coolant vacuum (which I don't) or don't remove the block drain plugs. And even when you do one of those, it seemed there was always some residual coolant left that got into the valley.... just don't like it. Maybe the LS intakes don't work that way at all... as mentioned I don't know yet. But if they do, for me, it was well worth a couple skinned knuckles not to have to hassle with changing the oil (when it wasn't due), draining the coolant and refilling, and having the possible residual coolant get into the block.

Just for future ref, The LS intakes don't have any coolant in them at all. And the gaskets are O-rings and can be used again.

I also "cut the hole". After reading the post on the forum and making sure I had the right socket (very important !) it took me 40 minutes start to finish.
