Default “Plug-in” Fan Controller

I am considering one of the “plug-in” fan controllers like a Vinci and I am wondering if these devices are really true plug-in devices. I saw a picture of one in a Mid America catalog and the device looks like it has a bunch of spade connectors and ring connectors.

How are these devices installed? Do they require any modifications to the car, like splicing wires or cutting plastic? It does not look like a “plug-in” device in the picture. I want to be able to quickly remove the device if I have to bring my car in for dealer service and I do not want to leave signs of its installation behind.

Someone on the other forum is having problems with his Vinci controller. Is anyone else having problems with this device?

I've got the Vinci (LS1 waterwick).

Very simple to install.

No major modifications, just run the wiring harness connect to ground and
fuse block and you're done.

I too have questions on these. One that I looked into has a temp sensor that gets wedged into the radiator. Is this how they work? I want one that re-programs the computer (like a hypertech).

The Vinci has a sensor set into the thermostat.

When the sensor reads a certain temp the fans come on (thermo opens on its own)

You can set your fans using LS1 edit.

I would have one of the local tuners do the reprogram vs. spending the $ on a Hypertech.

The fan controllers do not reprogram the PCM. They use a new relay to trigger the Left Hand Fan based upon the temperature read from a new temperature sensor. The new relay and new temperature sensor are part of the fan controller package. You unplug the stock Left Hand Fan connector and plug in a new connector that comes off the fan controller harness.

The Vinci’s temperature sensor is a probe you stick in the radiator fins. The Vinci is adjustable. The fan controller with the temp probe in the thermo housing is the LS1WCK unit made by AO Engineering. The AO Engineering unit is not adjustable.

Exit28 and Xtreme Motorsports sell LS1WCK. I ended up buying the AO Engineering LS1WCK unit because I like the idea of a normal temp sensor mounted in the thermo housing. That has to be more accurate than a probe stuck into a radiator fin.

You are correct!

I have the Waterwick as well.

The only Vinci unit that I've seen was exactly the same as my LS! Waterwick.

Perhaps the fellow who told me he had the Vinci had the Waterwick and didn't realize it, hence my confusion.
