Default Rain + cai = ????

I'm on the market for a CAI for my newly acquired 2001 Z06. Now I have been doing research on this site and a few other corvette forums and I've narrowed it down to either the Vararam or the Halltech.

Now my question.... and I have looked and couldn't find the answer anywhere....

How do these do in the rain? I live in South Florida and rain is as common as the air we breathe. So I want to make a purchase for a great performing CAI and I know I'll get that with either one of these. But I am worried about sucking water up into the engine. Can anyone give me some piece of mind or could someone let me know which of these 2 would be a better choice in regards to rain and moisture.

Thank you in advance.

John

This was a primary reason I just did the ziptie mod to mine. Of course, I never drive the car in the rain so its a moot point!

I have no choice in the matter. I purchased this car to drive day in and day out. I don't want it to just sit around and collect dust. So I'm curious if anyone has any feed back.

Especially pertaining to the VaraRam. I want that one most, but I'm more nervous about that one b/c of the design drawing air in from the lower part of the front bumper.

They are perfectly safe. Only way to remotely hurt your car is if you are a retard and drive your car into a river.

I'm a DD and I am gettign the Vararam.

The only CAI I know that was designed with safety in rain in mind is the Callaway Honker.

I got caught in the rain with a vararam and no problems i took the filter out as soon as i got home and it was dry. It does look like its designed to inhale everything including water.Cant explain why it was dry.

My avatar pic is from Watkins Glen at around 125-130 slowing down a bit because of the rain. I have a vararam and in 10yrs haven't had a problem a friend of mine lives in the Orlando, has a vararam and has't ad a problem Just use common sense, no river crossing without a bridge.

Ok, I talked to you over on SVTP (BV600). Almost bought your red one after selling my procharged 12'. The dealer didnt want to entertain my offers with what I knew about the car haha.

Anyways ended up getting a C5 Z also. Havent had any issues with my Halltech, also love my Shortened C6 shifter. Seen you are looking for a shifter.

Vararam and the Honker are the two higher rated in hp increases of all CAI's. Honker quality is generally rated much better of the two and less prone to water ingestion.

had a vararam for 4 years now. No issues. You can spray water into the inlet with a hose and the car on and it won't go up.

I run a dual cone setup and drive the car daily in Oregon - never had a problem. I also installed a front hood seal to try and help prevent water from dripping down.
