A couple of years ago I recall seeing that a forum vendor could tint tail lights matte black. I can't seem to find this vendor anymore. Someone had some used one in the for sale section, but he forgot where he bought them from. I've searched for them countless times with no luck. Does anyone know which vendor sells these? Thanks!
I've had tinted taillights on every other car i've ever own. Never had 1 problem with being rear ended. If you just lightly tint them to a dark cherry color, they light up like regular stock lights.

Only one way to find out!
Let us know how that goes. My guess is that insurance companies try to find any excuse they can to not pay up. They find out you darkened your taillights and some guy hits you from behind, how easy would it be for them to claim that the guy couldn't see your brake lights because they were darkened/tinted?
Personally, I think that's a great look...the tinted lights. Adds to the back of the car...but too risky for me.
The beauty of going this route is that, should you ever want to take the tail lights back to stock, you just peel the stuff off. (Or, if you get some cop who wants to be a jerk and gives you a fix-it ticket.) I chose to go this route because my tail lights are aftermarket that I didn't want to permanently alter them.
Nothing screams safety like painted over tail lights.
It is clear paint. It is translucent. Light shines through just fine. Have had many police cars behind me during daylight and night time hours. No tickets, no warnings. Only compliments. Your results may vary.
I want to tint mine but I'm terrified ill get rear ended and insurance won't cover : ( what do you guys think?
The tail lamp lens also serves as a reflector. Most all states require rear reflectors in red.
If you tint the lens too deep so that the reflector effectively no longer works, you can get pulled over by Officer Friendly who will hand you that piece of paper telling you how much you will pay in court.....

I personally shy away from any type of mod that draws any more attention than my Corvette already attracts. However what do I know?!
Case in point - While driving our SUV today through heavy stop and go traffic, I almost rear-ended a beat up Cavalier that had smoked tail light covers and illegal limo tint. What made matters worse was that only one of the two tail lights was operating and the brake light was also broken. So every time this guy hit the brakes, only the passenger side tail lamp lit up and I could barely see it.
Now this is where it gets funny. I decided to switch lanes in order to avoid a potential (my fault) accident, however after I switched lanes, the LEO who was driving behind me was now driving behind the Cavalier. He continued to follow the Cavalier directly behind him for at least 3 miles and through 5 stoplights. Nothing!
