Welcome to the Forum! Congratulations on the new car!
Unless somebody just did a complete re-build on this car you are bound to have some issues. If somebody did a complete rebuild you're still likely to find some issues. I recently bought a '99 and with the help of this forum I am working my way through the issues.
My HVAC dim light issue cost me about $20.00 to fix myself following information posted here in the forum. $18.00 of that was for an electronics soldering iron, which I'll use again. Fixed the rocking seat issue which cost me about $3.00 in parts; again with the help of this Forum.
Do you have any mechanical ability? I make every effort to stay away from the dealership and do most work on the car myself. Go to the C5 Tech forum and at the top of the listing under stickies, you'll find an "Ultimate DIY/FAQ" thread. It has all the common issues listed and detailed instructions to follow to rectify each issue. Any issue you have that isn't listed there will be probably found using "search" function. If you ask the question of concern; there is a pool of knowledgeable people who will bend backward to help and guide you through the fix.
I did a quick search for members in Chicago and found over 100 members. That was only Chicago; none of the surrounding area. Most like myself would offer a hand to help you out locally.
Your price paid for the car does not raise any concern. You did good!
would have said overpriced if it was a coupe. for a vert that's more or less a good deal at market value. fair to both parties.
i'm all about good deals and can't get on board saying 13.5 was high
that said it is a 12 yr old car and will have some quirks. if you can wrench yourself it shouldn't be too bad. as long as they aren't tracked frequently or abused/neglected the c5 is a 200+ k mile car
FYI, I just turned down 20,000.00 for my 99 coupe from a very serious restaurant owner who wanted it for his wife... they know me and they know the car. Ive known these people for 30 years. Not to mention the other 50 people or so who have offered to buy my car, the moment I want to sell it.

Yeah right, should of taken the money and run! As for the op that's a good price.
You could not have bought that car for that price around here. It varies by location but you did good. The HVAC fix is easy. When you do the repair be sure the parts don't move when you heat them up. They are sometimes only held on on one side. They are a pain to get in place again and solder. Try to find which end is loose and do that one first. Mine is good as new now. I have always liked the C5 better than the C6. Now that I have both even more so. I wish I had gotten a C5 vert instead. Enjoy your new toy. Welcome to the madness.
Snowflakes? Did not see them. Saw the BSMs and immediately left the thread. Came back to say that it looks like you did good imo. Tighten up the little things and you're gold.
If those are the only issues, they are easily fixed and I'd say you got a good deal on the car. Best of luck with it and hope it gives you many years of driving pleasure.

Why would I run...??????????? the car is worth more to me to keep it. Not only that it's a one of a kind car with many one off prototypes we used to evaluate the C5 platform, in our design mules. Parts that didn't make the cut because of the added expense. Take the money and run indeed...If I did sell the car I would have no problem sleeping at night knowing the buyer got a very special car. With seven proprietary designs in every C5 on the planet this car is the culmination of my career with GM and my participation in the design of the C5 platform. I retired in 2000.

Rude comment, and if you don't need the money why sell something that you couldn't replace (in terms of at least time invested in the car, let alone ET's comments on its provenance).
Sounds like a good buy. As long as the issues are minor, if you have any mechanical skills, some of those things you can take care of yourself. You can also get pointers from us here at the forum, as well as Google. As far as homework, NOW'S as a good a time as any to study up on DIY projects and keep some cash in your pocket. Enjoy your vert buddy.

Also meant to say its a sharp ride. I've seen similar models with the same stats for more money, so you did good.
