Tried to start seems to have plenty of juice, battery is less than a year old. After i pulled the key out i heard what sounded like a buzing sound. Car now has a ticking sound like a big clock (or a relay trying to open or close) comming from passenger side floor.

I yanked the floor board off. The clicking is comming from a silver box.

What do you think it is and what is the fix?

I am thinking of disconnecting the battery to prevent potential over heating. Your thoughts as well?

Thanks in advance!!!

Batteries can go bad in two days. I would be suspicious of it first. Take it out of the car, down to the parts store and get it checked.

How often is the car started/used? If you use it fairly regularly, make sure your interior light isn't turned on. You won't be able to notice it if it's during the day because the light comes down from the mirror. It's the **** that dims your dash lights. Just make sure it's not turned all the way where the light turns on.

If it's not that, I had the same issue for a while last summer. I never found out what it was exactly, but in my case, the clicking happened in unison with the guages seeming to be "stuck" in the start-up procedure, where they go all the way right, then back to zero, while the DIC reads, "CORVETTE BY CHEVROLET." Every "click" would restart the start-up procedure, and it would never finish.

I replaced the battery with a brand new one, but the condition continued even with the new battery. I returned the battery and checked my grounds and unplugged and restored all the plugs in the silver box. As suddenly as it happened, it stopped, and I didn't see that problem again.

It seems now that all my problems came from my ignition switch. You may want to post this in the C5 Tech section, or check the sticky threads on cleaning the ignition switch. It took care of EVERY problem I had, including error messages I'd been having for years!

Good luck. Electrical gremlins can be a bear to overcome. Thank God for the members on this forum, who are willing to share their wisdom and expertise on issues that seem like "the end" for us 'regular guys.'

Do you have an aftermarket stereo/amplifier installed? Same thing happened to me and I found out the amp overheated and did not shut down so it continued to drain my battery completely down after I turned the car off.

Since my battery was less than a year old, I was able to recharge it using a heavy duty charger (not a trickle charger).

Pulled the battery, and had it checked. Dead as a bag of hammers. Dropped in a new AC/Delco and she cranked right up!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!

Good to hear! What brand battery did you have originally that died in less than one year?! I have the AC Delco 7-year professional battery and was able to recharge it after my amp sucked it dry.

I would keep an eye on the new battery for a few days/weeks. If it also dies, you have something sucking the power out.
