Most owners have no intention of maintaining or modding a car over the long haul. They are fine with changing the oil and minor stuff, but serious stuff that costs a little coin throws most off. So the cars need to move on and they can buy newer as they see fit.
Then there are guys like me that mod the heck out of them and just continue the process as long as I can stand it. Once you get a car to that point, there's no desire to sell it, just to start the same process on another car.
As much as I wouldn't mind another newer car, there's the reality that no matter how newer, it's going to be sub par to the awesome one I have(my humble opinion). And the need to blow large sums of cash again.
So it's ok, no matter which side of the fence you fall. Some guys do, some guys don't. With the newer C7 coming on board, C6's will plummet in price so this is the time to unload and move up a generation.

Does seem like a lot of new C5 owners have been showing up on the forum. I can see where some C5 owners have been selling their cars - either in anticipation of the C7 or just to get into either a newer Corvette or take some other direction. The thing is C5s have dropped in price enough that many more people can afford them and perhaps some owners are wanting to sell before they drop even further.
Purchased my 02 EB coupe new and I'll never sell her. I don't see myself selling my 98 red coupe either but if the right $ amount was offered, I would sell her.

over the years I've noticed this too, and one thing for sure is a lot of cars get messed up with bazaar mods or fecked up engine tweaks and electrical gremlins causing the owners to finally give up and minimize their losses and moving on.

It's a funny thing that you said that , I guess just read the forum and you can see some of those problems ..

I think the desire and commitment to research the gremlins and repair them seperates the "enthusiast" from the "owner".

What I don't understand is that prices on C3's are equal or sometimes even higher than that of C5's. Now, with even money, who the hell would want a c3?

I think some people are unloading now before the price drops when the c7s start selling. I've considered selling now because I won't get **** a year from now on a C7 trade in.

I don't really see it making any difference. Sell the car outright and have cash in hand for a deal on new, and you're in the drivers seat. The buyer of your C5 isn't going to be looking for a new car (not a new c7). And the difference between selling now in winter or later when closer to c7 release, I just don't see it making any difference.
There's lots of C5's out there to buy, so they're not going to bring a fortune at sale, c7 or no c7. Mine I bought for 13,100 so I don't expect to sell it for a whole lot less. If I loose a couple grand for a couple years, so be it.
I hate driving my truck now, so I'm certainly not going to go Vette-less all next summer in anticipation of buying something else. I'll buy when the time comes, I'll just have to shop till the price fits my budget.
(I am seriously considering picking up a 13 when the time comes).

There's a guy locally here with a garage, he has a late 70's C3, Blue, nothing special. Paint is 3 out of 10, it looks complete, but it's been sitting outside for years. He's asking like 11K for it. I mentioned to him one day when we were both at the auto parts store that mine outside was only 13K. I could just see his heart sink, as if he truly thought that was a fair price for his pos, and looking at mine, his was clearly worth 2500. (that including a corvette tax...) The conversation began when he asked if I was interested in buying another one, and rattled off 11K. Uhhhhhh... no, thanks anyway, how bout you give me 10K and yours and we might talk a trade!
Just a reflection of society. people don't want to maintain an old car and they want bigger and badder. I wasn't around vettes with all the other generational changes but i would guess that's part of it as well. It's a great time to get a C6 if one has ever considered it. And the 2013 C6 has to be a good car I would think. Or even a 2011 or 12.
