Default Catch Can Owners - How Often Do You Empty?

Per the the title, I installed a chrome catch can last year. My C5 is a weekend driver so I'm curious how often do you drain the catch can and at what levels within the can?

Any easy draining tips?

Thanks!

Usually not not to often, but that depends of a couple thing, like how hard you drive and your engine. I pull it off at least every oil change. But you might want to check it every so often to see how much is in your can, that way you'll get an idea how much oil goes into and how long it takes to get it there.
I think the fullest Ive seen mine is like about 2/3 full.
Nothin' to dump it, unscrew it and put it in yor used oil. Just remember to put alittle oil on the threads when reinstalling.

Thanks. Although my C5 is a weekend driver, I do enjoy "spririted" drives so it gets its exercise!

Since I only change my oil once/year based on the low mileage (I'm at 85% over 10 months), I will check it soon. Based on the design (CCA catch can), I should be able to drain it from the bottom without removing the can.

I check twice a oil fill, at change and at 50%. If you track the car, you will need to drain it then.

Nice clean stock looking motor here. Not much I would say for you. Maybe ever oil chg just to see what is going on in it also. But you should be good for a year. If you dont track the car or run it really hard.. Robert

Thanks. Pretty much stock with a Callaway Honker CAI, Corsa Indy exchaust w/x-pipe and a C.O.W. A4 tune.

It's not a track car, just a really fun convertible Corvette!

I'm saving my track days for the C7Z stable mate in a few years!

I do not put a lot of miles on my car each year, but I will check the level in the catch can about every 500-1000 miles, which equates for maybe 3-4 times a year. Usually not a lot of oil in there, but whatever amount it's nice to know it isn't going into the intake.

For dd, I never check mine. But I track about once a month, so before track day, and after every 2 sessions. Rarely gets about 1/2 full.

I've never had the can more than 1/8th full in a cycle between oil changes. I would say it's less than 1/4 cup of oil. As my oil is draining I pull it, drain it, clean inside and out and slap it back in. Simple task.

While I could wait until I change the oil, I typically empty my glass reservoir twice per year. Obviously, there is no need to "check" by removing anything.

I have the Mike Norris model and I drain at each oil change.
I have found a really easy way to drain the oil out of
the canister. I just suck it out with a turkey baster. My
canister is harder to drain so I thought this procedure
would work just fine.

to get a feel for your situation, I would check it every 3 or 4 month to see what accumulation you might have. If you find you don't have much, at least with each oil change. My 04 is also a weekend or less drive, so I find I only need to dump whatever accumulation there is at oil change time (once a year).

I empty mine with yearly oil changes which means about 3000 - 4000 miles or so. The catch can was maybe 1/4 full.

Looks Fantastic

Typically we see 2-3 oz per oil change on a street driven Corvette.

You can see up to 2-3 oz per session on a track driven Corvette

CCA Oil Catch Cans

Peace

Thanks Chip! Can I drain the can by opening the Petcock valve and letting the oil run out through the bottom of the can?
