The only place my car has rubbed on is the lower front dam as well. Ever since lowering the car i just have to drive more carefully and slower around bumps and dips.

I doubt it was "crunching". It was just the air dams scraping on the pavement. Mine does that once in a while.

Yeah considering that the oil filter is above the skid plate , I would think more along the lines that something was laying in the road ...
