Default damage from lowering

just curious. . . .most post address lowering the c5 as a positive. Has anyone had a bad experience with a lowered car? I found my oil filter nearly punctured from a rub i could not avoid. (yes previous owner did the bolt drop). As stated, just curious of other bad experiences. . . .

My car is pretty low and I occasionally scrape, but I've never damaged anything. That must have been one heck of a rub to nearly puncture your oil filter. Sounds more like you may have run over some type of debris in the road.

I bet you had a K&N oil filter on your car?
Mine has been lowered for 4 plus years now and one has to watch the speed bumps, Take them slow, I installed Elite Engineering rocker savers and thay have saved me.
Mr.Bill

The K&N filter has a nut on the bottom that extends the filter below the pan and makes it a target for issues.

I'm lowered on stock bolts with half the bushings cut in the front and lowered all the way in the rear and the only thing that ever scrapes is my middle air dam. As you can see in this picture of how low it is on level ground.

Lowered max on stock bolts, a little scraping here and there, but no significant damage to anything.

I (and my neighbors...) didn't like the front air dam scrapes entering my driveway...I removed all 3 pieces....the car looks better to me, and no heating issues at all.

FWIW, the Mobil1 filter is a little longer than the corresponding AC Delco filter, so you need to be a little careful when using one of those, too.

No real damage to speak of on mine, you just have to be careful and pay attention.

my rear is leveled on stock bolts, but then my tires went from standard to Z06 sizes (which are 1/2" shorter), and on top of that, Nittos run a little smaller than standard sizing, so my car will rub occasionally. i drive around speed bumps & any significant dips in the road. other than that, it's been fine - except loading on the trailer is more of a pain in the butt

You just gotta be careful around dips and bumps. I've seen a guy recently that drove his corvette into a slopped entrance head on, the crunching noise made me cringe.

Another option--instead of removing the air dam ,just cut it down.
I trimmed mine 3/4 of a inch and I have alot less scraping.

to be fair, we were on a paved country back road (wife driving...still learning the cars character) and dodged one pothole but caught its evil neighbor. The slow speed involved was helpful, but still contact was made. Guess i should have been in the jeep...lol. Anyway, at speed on highways i haven't made sparks fly.... yet.....we are new to the car and man is it awesome(!) but just concerned a little about the underside of the car and its survival rate with it dropped. Thanks for the replies...( ps.....it is a 99 coupe with 64k....shocks are on the "replace soon" list!)

Default 2x4

Going home from work a 2x4 about 6 feet long fell off of a construction truck about the time i was passing, luckily i was able to straddle it, but it bent the frame that holds the middle air dam, just slight damage that I was able to straighten out. I approach and depart my driveway with slight scraping. Otherwise go slow or avoid speed bumps and armadillos !!
