Default TPMS Question

I have a 99 C5 and took off the factory wheels yesterday and replaced with same size wheels and had new TPMS installed in each wheel.

Did the "learn" mode today - 4 different times and each time, the horn sounded on all four units but when I drive the LF unit wont read.

I drove about 3-5 miles in between each time I tried the "learn". Stiil that one sensor wont read.

Should I maybe just drive it awhile and see if it kicks in or do you think I have a faulty sensor.

Thanks for the help.

I seem to remember an old thread where someone said it took 50 miles for one his to kick in.

Keep trying

Not that it means anything but I have one that takes a long time to wake up, it just happens to be the same one as you.

A properly functioning TPS should read within the first mile or so of driving - but can't hurt to drive a bit further to see if it responds. I know mine has always responded once I got the car up past 20 mph or so. It just might be that you have a faulty sensor.

You could try re-doing the “learn” but this time beep the right front first then the left front. Then if the right front won’t read I would suspect a bad TPMS.

Just put new ones in my car and they started working by the time I got to the end of my block.

Since the horn sounded on all four sensors when I did the teach mode - would'nt that indicate the sensors were all good?

If the sensor was faulty, would the horn still sound in the teach mode?

The horn sounding would indicate that the “learn” function is working but the tire pressure reporting function may not be working.

So I have driven about 200 miles and my front left sensor still has not woke up.

I called the supplier I purchased the new sensors from and he suggested I go back to the tire shop that installed them and have them use their hand held computer. When I got there this morning, they didnt have the hand held for a 99 C5. But he did have a large magnent. It woke it up but half way home it stopped working.

When I got back to my home town I stopped at Les Schwab and asked if they have the proper meter and they said yes. They did the teach mode and each tire responded but when I left and they started to register - it showed up in the metric form.

All my readings are now metric - if I take it to my Chevy dealer can they reset it back?

Help please.

Thanks....

Default For diagnostic purposes

For diagnostic purposes, try switching your dash gauges to metric and see if the sensor readings switch to psi. Let us know........

That worked - tomorrow I will take her out for a spin and be sure all the sensors are reading - but at least I am not metric any longer.

Thanks guys - this is a great forum...

I am learning alot.
