Driving them is 90% of the fun. How fun is it to just dream of driving the car thats in your garage that has 500 miles on it? NONE. and like someone else said, i doubt that car is leaving the family. and personally i think it makes it a cooler story that it has a half million miles on it.
Uneducated!! I doubt that. He's the one owner with the 63 vert, remember. The side pipes are aftermarket but the 63's came stock with that hood. The split window has them as well but different luvers on the hood. I hope this guy can put another 100k on his car.
Not quite, take a closer look, he's added those louvers, the 63 came with black and chrome fake louvers that were attached not actually cut into the hood. The coupesand verts had the same hood.
This will be my first attempt to post, so will try to answer some of the comments. I am the original owner, bought the Vette Feb 27, 1963. I was 18 at the time. I have the original fake hood louvers, but have most of the time used home made louvers in their place. The hood on the 63's have 2 recessions, 1 is for the fake louvers. Steel wheels came on it with 5 bars & a 3 bar fake spinner hubcaps. I still have them. Baby moons are easy to replace & easier to clean. I rebuilt the rusted frame (winter salt on Iowa roads) in '81. I still have the original 327CI, 340 HP engine. I run the oringinal 4 speed BW transmision. Disk brakes & the side pipes were installed in the 70's. Wife & I drive it anywhere & everywhere. Went to Labrador (7,100 miles) in 2008 for example. As for other maintenance we do what is necessary to keep it running & reliable. 4 engine blocks total with current power 350 CI, 400HP. Current milage is 500,449 miles. And it is the will for number 4 son and his wife. The only time it was for sale was when I was drafted in 1965, it wouldn't sell so I kept it. That's a great story and a great car. However, regardless of the miles, I would still swap out those chrome, police cruiser wheels for a nice set of retro five spokes.

Really great that you held it so long. Sold mine in '67, wish I still had it.

You know...That's just frickin awesome. Take in to consideration all the '63's lost over 50 years or ones that only get started and handled with white gloves crossing Barrett-Jackson auctions, and here you have an "original owner" driving and modifying it to his tastes. Kudos to him, he obviously loves his Corvette. I understand that completely. Best of luck to you,Steve.

i hear that quite often at shows etc. My generation did sell their Vettes or other rides but as I mentioned I was able to keep it. I kept it while working 2 jobs, raising 4 sons, getting rid of bad wifes and finding a good wife. We do get around with the Vette, we camp with it, pull trailor and canoe gear to BWCA for outings, we have drag raced it, autocroosed it, car shows, parades, and just about anything else you can think of. Last year we drove it to the top of Pikes Peak.
Sir, it is great to read of your adventures. Fantastic story. Personally, I have a '03 Z06 that I'm working on driving it. It currently has 112,000 proud and happy miles. I've enjoyed every mile.

My hat's off to you Steve! Congratulations, what a beauty. There are those that like to polish them in the garage, those that modify, and those that get more of a thrill driving them as much as possible. To each their own, but this just shows how the Corvette can be a lifetime hobby and provide a lifetime of enjoyment!

A great story about a great car and a great enthusiast. Wish I was going to be at Carlisle as I'd love to see your car. I purchased my 2003 in 2010 with 11,575 miles on the odometer. It is at 67,000 now, just a little over 3 years later. Guessing that just a few of those half-million miles were put on the car while it was being driven in the rain?
