Well I've had my vette lowered for a few months now and it's getting old. My 01 Z never had this problem, but my 04Z really makes you feel the road. I can't go over RR tracks more than 10 MPH or my head will hit the roof. Interstate bridge bumps, potholes, etc absolutely punish you. Shocks are ok and no noises coming from suspension. Is it just the shocks bottoming out? Like i said, my last vette never had this problem and it was lowered slightly more than this one. Thinking it may be due to the 2004 Z06 suspension. Any way to help this and make it ride better.
Front bolts all the way down and longer bolts in the rear
I was setup the same way on my 99 FRC and the ride was similar. I just installed pfadt coilovers and the ride is much better. It is stiffer but I don't get that jolt any longer.
Put the stock bolts back in the rear and turn them all the way down and DON"T cut the bushings. I have the '04 shocks in my '03 and it's lowered all the way on the stock bolts front and rear and it rides just fine. The roads around here really suck too. Don't know if this matters but I keep my tires at 30psi front and rear.
You are on the bump stops in the back. Not doubt about it. Just because it isn't making horrible noises doesn't mean it's not on the bump stops. The bump stops are progressive, they just act like really really stiff springs, although after a while they will break down and then things will get loud. Right now you are just beating the hell out of the bump stop, and since, for all practical purposes, you don't have any suspension, the only springs you have are the tires.
And you are lucky if it hasn't knocked the rear end out of alignment, the bottoming of the rear shock wedges the rear lower control arm out, and most of the time it causes the rear eccentric bolts to slip and that screws the alignment.
In the front you have about an inch or an inch and a half of travel, which is not much.
Get rid of the longer bolts in the back and raise it up to where three threads are showing above the stock bolts on the left rear bolt, and about 5 threads showing on the right rear bolt and you will be fine in the back.
Crank a couple of turns back into the front bolts to give you a bit more travel up there too.
And then get it realigned (again).
It's real easy to get greedy with lowering these cars, but as you, and countless others before you have found it's just not a good idea to lower them that much.
Are those aftermarket C6Z wheels? On one of my previous Z06's, I threw on some heavier wheels (around 5 pounds a corner vs Speedlines; still 17" and 18"), and it ruined the car. Accelerated worse, braked worse, handled worse, and the ride was extremely rough. It was also lowered a modest amount on stock suspension.
I know rotating mass plays a part in all of that, but it was just really noticeable to me.
I love the look of the lowered car but when you run out of suspension travel you're in trouble. I have enough trouble keeping my front end off the street with the stock height so I don't know how you guys deal with that. I think if I ever do that I'll do it with the coils though.
I'm going to have to raise my car a tad as well. It's one thing to have it low and on track, it's another entirely to have it super low on the street. I personally think the guy that owned my car before me, just thought that lower was better. I hope that I can live with the LG coils that are on it.
I'm lowered all the way on the front. Lowering bolts on the rear but not all the way down. LG World Challenge wheels and BFG rubber. Car rides just like stock.
Yea ill try that. I'm eventually going to do some sort of suspension work. I have a badass nitrous kit I'm thinking of selling or maybe even trading plus some cash for some coilovers. Anyone know of anyone that may be in the market??
