I've pretty much learned that new sensors are the cure to my "flat tire warning" comming accross my dash which brings up the next question...will the car have to be re-programed after the new sensors are installed? (2000 C-5)
Yes it will. You will need a large magnet. I used one from a 6x9 speaker. Once you get the DIC in program, you will have to learn each tire in order. The horn will blow once each is programmed and it will blow twice upon completion. It's a pretty simple process. There's a lot of threads on here that will futher break the process down.
Here is one thread that discusses some issues and how to deal with them. There are others. Make sure if someone else replaces them they don't damage them. There are many sources for them including Tire Rack and a Forum vendor (I have added his post also). Good luck.
Just for the heck of it, I called my local Chevy dealer and asked how much sensors were for a 2000 Vette....$188.00 each! Then there's tax and install / re-programing at another $150.00 - $160.00. (plus tax) add that all up for all four wheels = $978.00 HOLY SH#+.
Next question...are the aftermarket sensors worth messing with?
Any suggestions would be appreciated....

There are several folks here that can replace the batteries for you, or do a search and DIY. The bad news is they have to be removed from the wheel to do it. I suggest you find a used set on flea bay, get them refurbished, install them, then turn around and sell your old ones on fleas bay or Craig's list. They last about 10 years once they are reinstalled. You didn't mention what year you have, but I bought a refurbished set today for my spare wheels and tires for my 2001 for about $75 including shipping. 2000 and older Vettes use a different sensor and they are a bit more pricey..

You can get OEM TPM's for your 2000 from GM Parts house for about $100 each and aftermarket are more like $60 each Install can be done by a good tire shop for a lot less than what the dealer is quoting. Now you see why they are called STEALERS and not dealers.
You should be able to get it done for closer to $300-350 total.
Last post in this thread says the poster got aftermarket TPM's for the 2000 for $140 for 4.
I just got a set of aftermarkets for $140 for the whole set. $50 bucks to have them switched out with the old ones at a local tire shop, programmed them myself (easy) and they work great!! i got Titan TPMS, I know a lot of people also use ORANGE. Both are AM.
After learning about the EXTREME cost of tire sensors and the rip-off stealership in town, I decided to see if I could re-set the system at the dash before trying to re-program with a magnet just in case it wasn't a battery issue. Evidently I have or hope had, a "sending" problem because after I reset my dash panel, all works fine again....just don't know how long things will hold up. Thanks for all the information. I saved a copy of how to re-program the sensors and also where to purchase aftermarkets.

You should tell us how you reset the dash in case someone else may need to try it.
I have two going south. I can reset and it may last for a short while. My guess, is it will come back. Not the worse thing in the world. I will replace mine this spring when I get rid of the run flats and get better tires.
